As you can imagine, the movie tackles the delicate issue of the slave trade during this time period and shows the bravery of these women, which has been unseen (and often unheard of) by many.
The Feminist Perspective of The Woman King
It also shows how empowered women are within that region, proving that the country was ahead of the times in many aspects of life. And unfortunately, it had to be ruined by those who thought more about money than human life.
As the women prepare for a last stand, it reminded me a little of the Marvel movie Black Panther 2, which shares a strong female lead and is also set in Africa. It wouldn’t surprise me if the premise of the Marvel movie was drawn from the real-life warriors in the Kingdom of Dahomey.
