Chris, a UK-born media connoisseur, is an expert in watching international TV. Known as "The Global Screen Wanderer", he has travelled extensively across the globe with long stints away from home. With over 10 years of experience he has become the go-to guru for streaming content from home and abroad.

If you’re a sports fan such as a hockey fan or a fan of any other sports and you have a valid account to watch TSN online then like me you might be disappointed to discover it’s not possible to stream outside Canada.

Although you can watch TSN in Canada to catch up with all your favourite sports, as soon as you travel outside Canada it’s blocked from viewing.

The good news is there is a really easy way to watch TSN outside Canada and you’ll be surprised due to its simplicity that you haven’t heard of the system before.

In this article we; going to show you the few easy steps so that you can watch TSN outside Canada from any country in the world and keep up with all your favourite sporting action and all you’ll need is an app called a VPN.

How to watch TSN outside Canada

If you’ve already tried streaming TSN outside Canada then you’ll know that rather than be able to watch your favourite sport that you’re blocked from viewing with a message similar to the one below.

Content blocked

An example of a block message you may see.

The reason you’re blocked is because the TSN website firstly checks your internet connection to see where you’re located and when it sees you’re outside of Canada it blocks you.

Every internet connection has something called an IP Address and it is from this IP Address that TSN can determine your location.

The great news is there is a tool called a VPN that allows you to get an IP Address from another country.

If you’ve already guessed this means you can use a VPN to get a Canadian IP Address and basically spoof your online location so rather than be blocked from watching you’ll be able to watch TSN outside Canada from any country in the world.

A VPN is really easy to use and comes in the form of software for your computer or an app for your tablet or phone. Within just one or two clicks you can be connected and watching TSN outside Canada.

So let’s find out where you can get a VPN to watch TSN outside Canada.

Where to get a VPN for TSN

A quick search of Google for a “VPN” will bring up a bewildering amount of different options. There are literally thousands of VPN services out there now and the overwhelming amount of choice can be confusing.

Like all things in the world there are good VPN services that are suitable for watching TSN outside Canada and then there are poor ones that are only after your money and offer a bad service.

I’ve tested some of the leading providers of VPN services to see which are best for watching TSN overseas and which should be avoided. Below I’ve put together three of the best options.

  1. ExpressVPN
  2. IPVanish
  3. NordVPN

I recommend you sign up to ExpressVPN because they’ve got a 30-day money back guarantee so if you get stuck you can just get your money back.

All you need to do is click on one of the names above that you like the sound of to visit their site and sign-up and then continue reading below where I’ll show you how you can use the VPN to watch TSN outside Canada.

How to use the VPN

Once you’ve signed up to one of the three providers listed above next decide what type of device you want to watch TSN on.

All three providers above offer software for Windows and Mac but also have apps for Android and iOS tablets and phones. ExpressVPN even have an added Amazon Fire TV Stick app.

You’re able to switch between devices so you aren’t just locked into one.

Download the software or app for your device of choice, install it and then all you need to do is connect to a Canadian server. Once connected visit the TSN website or launch the TSN app and you’ll be able to stream TSN outside Canada to whatever country you’re in.

Below I’ve put together a more detailed example using a Windows PC with ExpressVPN but the process is the same on a Mac and the other providers are similar, only the layout of their software will differ.

ExpressVPN:

  1. Visit the ExpressVPN website by clicking here and sign up.
  2. Download the Windows software from the ‘Products’ section of their website
  3. Install and run it. Login when required.
  4. Press Choose Location.
  5. Then press All, Americas and Canada.

A VPN from ExpressVPN lets you watch TSN overseas

The ExpressVPN software will now make connection to Canada which should take around 10-30 seconds.

Once it has connected any website you visit will now think you’re in Canada.

All that is left to do is visit the TSN website and watch whatever you want outside Canada wherever you are in the world.

I was wondering do I need a tv subscription in Canada to access TSN for I have a login but I am not able to access any of the live sports programs and how do I get one I dont have an address in canada thank you

  2. Cathy Guerrera says:

Also, can I use my comcast to watch TSN with Express VPN on my Smart TV? thanks

    • Chris says:

      Hi,

Again, you would need a valid subscription to access premium TSN channels. Free-to-air (if any) will be accessible.

Using it on a Smart TV is more difficult because it would need to be an Android Smart TV and allow you to install the Express VPN app.

Another although bulky way would be to access on a Laptop or Tablet and connect via HDMI cable to your TV.

  3. Cathy Guerrera says:

If I get Express VPN, can I also get NHL network or only network from abroad?

    • Chris says:

      Hi Cathy,

You’ll only be able to access any channels that you have a valid subscription for in Canada, or any that are free-to-air.

Is this currently working. When I tried last year it was not working.
Also, Is a TSN login required to stream… just as in Canada?

    • Chris says:

      Hi Chris,

Yes it’s working but only certain VPN providers, use one in the recommended list. You will need a TSN login as in Canada. Also if it doesn’t work for you don’t forget there’s a 30-day money back guarantee to get a refund.

  5. Kj says:

This no longer works on mobile devices as they (tsn app) also check your location using location services, this picks up your wifi location and still blocks the content. Very unfortunate.

    • Chris says:

      Hi Kj,

Have you tried putting your phone into airplane mode and then re-enabling Wi-fi and then trying via the VPN?

    • Andrew says:

kJ – they still ask for location services to be enabled… which option to choose? Allow or not?

    • Robin says:

100%. Set Location in the App to ‘Never’ (Apple) and it works fine. Be sure to use a VPN service with Canadian sites. It’s ridiculous that TSN would do this to anyone with a paid subscription.

They changed the TV listing last minute. Canada always gets old when it comes to NCAA football.
