How to watch the Tour de France 2018 online free

Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

The Tour de France is the ultimate cycling event and in this guide I’m going to show you how you can watch the Tour de France 2018 action from any country for free.

If you’re a cycling fan then the Tour de France is surely on your radar of events to watch. In sporting terms, the Tour de France is essentially the Football World Cup of cycling and if you want to see the best of the best then the Tour de France is the place to do that.

Sadly, depending on where you are in the world depends on what kind of coverage you’ll get of the Cycling.

In some countries there is little interest in cycling so the coverage is poor or doesn’t even exist and in others cycling is big so wide coverage is available.

Below I’m going to show you how you can get good coverage and watch the Tour de France online from anywhere in the world.

Watch the Tour de France 2018

The Tour de France is back and if you’re like me you’ll want to watch all the French cycling action.

Unfortunately, I live in a country where there is limited cycling coverage and if you’re the same then never fear. You see some countries have great coverage and it isn’t reserved for expensive cable networks either.

Most countries that show good coverage of the Tour restricts it to viewing from within their own country, for example in France.

In France the Tour is shown on the France TVsport network but if you try to visit outside France then you’re blocked from watching.

There is however a really simple way you can unblock this and all you’ll need is a VPN app.

A VPN is a legal privacy app that helps you protect your privacy and one of the features is letting you disguise your location.

Below I’ll show you how to use a VPN to watch the Tour de France for free wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Tour de France 2018 online free

VPN apps are offered by hundreds of different companies. Not all are suitable for watching the Tour de France.

A VPN will cost you just a couple of dollars for a month which is enough time to watch the whole Tour. I’ve tested a whole host of different services and the three I found best for streaming the Tour de France online are:

  1. ExpressVPN
  2. NordVPN
  3. IPVanish

All you need to do is select one. I’ve been using ExpressVPN because they work on a few more different types of devices but you can choose any. Once you’ve chosen one follow the steps below.

How to watch the Tour de France 2018 Step-by-Step:

  1. Visit your chosen VPN service, for example, ExpressVPN by clicking right here.
  2. Press Get ExpressVPN and follow and complete the sign-up process.
  3. Once you’ve signed up go to the Products section of the website and download the correct app for your type of device.
  4. Install and open the app and when required login. The login will either be your email and password or the activation code which you can get from the ‘My Account’ section of the ExpressVPN website.
  5. Press Choose Location and then click France.
  6. The app will start connection for you but if it doesn’t just press the Connect button.

ExpressVPN France

Once the app has connected you have a few different choices of where to watch the Tour de France and by using them all you’ll get more coverage.

The first website to visit is:

You can watch live coverage here but there are other choices. You’ll need to change location on the ExpressVPN app to watch these other services. Just connect to the country listed below and then visit the matching site.

  • United KingdomITV 4 (You’ll need to create a free account and use a UK Post Code, eg; GU5 9LB, LS3 1AB or WD19 6FR)
  • AustraliaSBS Cycling Central

Full live coverage in English is available on both ITV 4 and SBS Cycling Central. The France TVSport may have additional coverage but the commentary will be in French.

You should connect to the location physically nearest to you to get the best quality stream. For example, if you’re in New Zealand or Asia use the SBS Cycling Central website. If you’re in North America or Europe then use either the ITV 4 coverage or the France TVSport website.

Recap How to watch the Tour de France 2018

To watch the Tour de France in your country for free you’ll need to get yourself a VPN service.

A VPN allows you to watch the free streams of the Tour de France from other countries and with minimal ease. A VPN will set you back a couple of dollars but you’ll only need a 1-month account to watch the full event.

My recommended VPN service is ExpressVPN but if you want more choice take a look earlier in this guide as there are three good recommendations.

You can get ExpressVPN by clicking the large orange button below. Once you’ve signed up, download their app for your device, connect to France and then enjoy watching the Tour de France. Check earlier in this guide for 3 different official websites you can watch the coverage on.

Where will you be watching this year’s Tour de France from and more importantly, who do you think will win? I would love to know your thoughts so why not let me and others know in the comments section below.
