Chris, a UK-born media connoisseur, is an expert in watching international TV. Known as "The Global Screen Wanderer", he has travelled extensively across the globe with long stints away from home. With over 10 years of experience he has become the go-to guru for streaming content from home and abroad.
If you’re after watching Thai language Netflix outside Thailand then this guide is for you.
In this guide I’m going to show you how you can do just that in 5 simple steps. Best of all, you don’t need to be a tech-wizard to do it!
Netflix is amazing, it’s probably the best online streaming service in the world for movies and TV shows. Unfortunately though it’s heavily region restricted which means depending on what country you’re in, depends on what content you get access to.
Not only does the content like the movies and TV shows differ by region and country but so does the audio languages and subtitle (CC) options.
If you’re Thai or you’ve got a Thai family member who wants to watch Netflix outside Thailand but with Thai audio or Thai subtitles then read on to find out how easy it is.
Watch Thai language Netflix outside Thailand
When you visit the Netflix website in a country such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia or anywhere else you’re served the local version of the Netflix website.
This has movies and TV shows specific to that region and the languages are also geared towards that country. For example, the American Netflix site is highly geared towards English and Spanish, the UK site English and so on.
The Thai Netflix website has Thai audio and Thai subtitles but only when you access it in Thailand.
It is however possible to access Thai audio and Thai subtitles in other countries like America, the UK, Australia and elsewhere. To do this you’ll need to get an app called a VPN.
A VPN is a privacy tool that lets you alter your location so that you appear in another country. They’re 100% legal and legitimate tools for privacy protection.
A VPN is going to cost you as little as US$5 per month and the longer you subscribe for the cheaper it becomes. You can use your standard Netflix account details so there’s nothing extra needed.
Follow the steps below to watch Thai language Netflix outside Thailand.
How to watch Thai language Netflix
- Visit the VPN provider CyberGhost by clicking here and sign up for their service. They have a massive 45-day money back guarantee so if you can’t get it working or it’s not for you then you can simply get a refund.
- Once you’ve signed up to the service go to the ‘VPN Apps‘ area on their website.
- Download the correct app for your device. You can also download their mobile and tablet app directly from your usual app store, just search ‘CyberGhost VPN’. The service works with Android, Apple iOS, Windows and Mac devices and computers.
- Install their app, open it and login with your account details when required.
- From the country selection list find Thailand and click on it, it should automatically connect for you but if not press the Connect button.
It doesn’t take longer than 30 seconds for the CyberGhost app to get connected. Now you’ve connected any websites you visit will think you’re in Thailand.
45-day money back guarantee
All you need to do now is head over to the Netflix website like normal and you’ll notice on most movies and TV shows you select you’ll either be able to select Thai audio or Thai subtitles (CC).
Are you sure VPN services are legal, they seem magical
While it does seem like wizardry that something as simple and quick as a VPN can enable you to access the Thai Netflix catalogue with Thai language there is nothing magical about it.
VPN services are 100% legal in nearly all countries across the world. In fact, they’re only disallowed in restrictive countries like China and Iran.
They’re a legitimate tool for you to protect your online privacy.
How does a VPN even work
When you visit Netflix in the country you’re in your internet connection tells the Netflix website what country you’re in. Netflix then gives you the correct site for that country regardless of where your account was registered or where you pay your subscription.
A VPN works by taking your internet connection and firstly sending it via Thailand, it is then passed to Netflix. Netflix only sees a connection from Thailand and so provides the Thai Netflix website which includes Thai audio and subtitle options.
The VPN then passes this back to you in your country be it America, the UK, Australia or anywhere else.
It’s a completely seamless process that you won’t even notice because the VPN handles it all.
Can I use any VPN service
If you do a quick search of Google or any other search engine you’ll come across hundreds if not thousands of companies offering VPN services.
Like anything, some of these are good and some are bad. It’s impossible to know which is which until you’ve signed up.
Unfortunately, the problems don’t stop there. Not all VPN services support the Thai Netflix website. Either they don’t have a Thailand ‘VPN Server’ which is essential or even when connected to Thailand the Netflix site still doesn’t recognise you as in Thailand.
It’s for this reason that I recommend CyberGhost for watching Thai Netflix outside Thailand because it’s tried, tested and confirmed as working.
In Summary
If you want to watch Netflix with Thai audio and Thai subtitles and you’re outside Thailand then you’re in luck.
To do this you’ll need to get yourself a VPN service from CyberGhost. You can get one by clicking the orange button below.
Once you’ve signed up simply install their app on your device, connect to Thailand and then launch Netflix like normal.
45-day money back guarantee
Where are you watching Thai Netflix from and what have you been watching recently? I’d love to hear your story so why not get involved and let me know in the comments section below.
I talked to CyberGhost support to ask if Id be able to access Thailand Netflix before I decided to buy and they said they don’t unlock Thailand Netflix. I learned the hard way that expressvpn doesn’t either.
Hi Allison,
Yes, they don’t ‘officially’ unblock Thai Netflix but at the time of writing it was working which is why you have to select a specific server. I’ve watched plenty of Thai exclusives using this methods.
It’s worth remembering that CyberGhost has a 45 day money back guarantee so you can get a refund if it doesn’t work out for you.
Hello Chris, it is still working and it is possible to unlock/watch Thai Netflix at this time?
Hi Nat,
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working right now 🙁
This does not work in Australia.
Hi Mark,
Just double checked and still working fine. You need to go into the Thailand server list and try some of the individual connections. Eg; Bangkok-S401-i10 works fine.
Also, what device are you using? If you’re using an app like a Fire TV Stick or Android you may need to force stop the Netflix app to clear it’s memory of your local catalogue.
I’ve got Nord VPN now a couple of days, and just found out I can’t access Netflix-Thailand. Do you know which VPN does give access to Thailand Netflix?
Hi Maudddy,
It appears NordVPN is no longer working with Netflix Thailand. Is there something specific you want to watch. A lot of content available on Netflix Thailand is also available on Netflix Singapore.
Hi Maudddy, we’ve just tested CyberGhost and it works fine. Link in the article above.
Nordvpn and many (perhaps all) do not appear to support Thailand Netflix. You should confirm with them whether it’s available prior to subscribing.
Agree with this fully. We wrote this guide some time ago and it was working but things change rapidly so it’s always best to check or make use of their 30-day money back guarantee.
Hi Joe. CyberGhost works great for Thai Netflix. Have updated the link in the guide above.
Thank you Stefan, really interesting and helpful. My question is : we only watch Netflix on a Samsung smart TV, we live in Thailand so all fine there, but if we go back to England and want English audio and Thai subs, how do we get NordVPN on the Samsung Smart TV in the UK ?
Hi Libby,
That’s a little more tricky actually because it’ll require some more hardware. Your would need to get an Amazon Fire TV Stick (https://amzn.to/2M0rWo5) and then you can install NordVPN or one of the other VPN services on there and watch Netflix with Thai subtitles. It’s a little stick that plugs into your smart TV.
Great Article. Thank you!
Thanks Stefan!
