How to watch 10Play Overseas

Chris, a UK-born media connoisseur, is an expert in watching international TV. Known as "The Global Screen Wanderer", he has travelled extensively across the globe with long stints away from home. With over 10 years of experience he has become the go-to guru for streaming content from home and abroad.

In this article I’m going to show you how you can watch 10play overseas. So if you’re outside Australia and you want to watch the online streaming service from 10play then read on as you’ll be surprised just how easy it is.

If you’re like me and you’ve been trying to watch 10play overseas outside Australia then you’ll know how annoying it is to be blocked.

Due to this I did a little bit of investigating to find out if it’s possible to watch 10play anywhere in the world and the good news it, it is!

10play is a great online streaming service with Australian classics like Neighbours, Bondi Rescue, MasterChef, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and more and as well as classic Australian programming it also features shows from around the world like CSI: Cyber, NCIS, Sherlock Holmes and others.

Not only can you watch quality shows but 10play also streams exciting sports like the Formula 1.

So if you’re Australian and outside Australia or you’ve never even been to Australia and just want to access all the quality shows available on 10play then keep reading below and I’ll show you how.

How to Watch 10play Overseas

If like me you’ve tried to watch 10play overseas then like me you’ll know it just isn’t possible. There is no explanation given, the videos just won’t play.

The actual reason for this is because 10play is restricted to viewing from within Australia. When you visit the website it checks your internet connection and by something called your IP Address knows your location. When 10play see you’re outside Australia then it blocks you from viewing.

Content blocked

An example of a block message you may see.

The way to avoid this block is to get yourself an IP Address from Australia.

Once you’ve got an IP Address from Australia you’ll be able to watch 10play overseas and not only that but you’ll also be able to watch other Australian services like Foxtel Go, SBS, ABC iView and more.

You’ll be pleased to know it’s extremely easy to get an IP Address from Australia and all you need to use is a program called a VPN or to use the full name a Virtual Private Network.

Below I’m going to show you the best place to get yourself a VPN and how to use it. You’re going to be surprised just how easy this is!

Where to get a VPN from

You can get a VPN service from a ton of different companies. There are literally thousands of them from all over the world.

The first thing you need to make sure is the service has an Australian “server”. Not all do and without one it won’t be any use.

The second thing you need to be aware of is speed. Transferring video from 10play in Australia to your location wherever you are is speed critical. If you sign up to a poor provider that has poor speeds then you’ll suffer buffering and poor playback.

I’ve been testing 10play in the UK which is about as far away as you can get from Australia and I found NordVPN to offer a great service with speeds good enough to watch without any buffering or stuttering.

I’ve put together three VPN providers that will all be suitable to watch 10play overseas so just click on one of their names, sign-up and then keep reading as I’ll show you how to use it.

  1. NordVPN
  2. CyberGhost VPN
  3. Surfshark

How to use the VPN to watch 10play overseas

If you want to see how easy the whole process is from start to finish check out the simple steps below.

First you’ll need to sign up for a VPN provider, I use NordVPN because they’ve got a 30-day money back guarantee.

Once you’ve signed up to a VPN provider suggested earlier you need to download their software for either your Windows PC or Mac. You can also download an Android app or iPhone/iPad app but you’ll need the TenPlay app already installed on your phone.

Once you’ve downloaded the software, install it.

All you need to do next is connect to Australia. On the NordVPN app this can be found by clicking Australia on the map or from the country list on the left.

When you click on it it should automatically connect but if not press Connect.

NordVPN Australia

Unlock 10Play using NordVPN.

Once it’s connected all you need to do is visit the 10play website and you’ll be able to watch any of the shows listed.

That’s all there is to it, enjoy watching TenPlay outside Australia.

I’ve tried two VPN’s now… being a complete newbie I got one that didn’t cover Australia. Just tried Express and TenPlay is asking me to disable the VPN running. Ugh. Should I try Nord? Hanging out for the new Survivor series 😁

    • Chris says:

      Hi Gina,

Have you tried using different cities on their Australian option? ‘Sydney 2’ works best but they also have Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

  2. Oral Knox says:

I just opened a 10 play acct. using Nord with no problems. I had more problems with my email provider than anything. (suspicious activity)

  3. callum says:

ExpressVPN is great but I remember Tenplay working against VPNs for sometime. I recently came across this and it works really well.

  4. Shane says:

    Comments from Laura from IPVanish
    “Well, according to our database
10 Play does block our service”

  5. Al says:

we have just returned from Aus and signed up to Cyberghost, through the Sydney VPN server to keep watching Survivor. Like people above I get the timer bar progressing but black screen. It will only play the adverts! Any help gratefully received as all my kids became survivor fans too.

    • Chris says:

      Hi Al,

Seems like this is a new development. My recommendation is to give it a few days but if it’s still not working then use the money back guarantee and get a refund.

      • Al says:

Just tried expressvpn too . Checked each Australian server as an option. Changed my time to local time. disabled location services. Nada.

        • Chris says:

          Hi Al,

I have to agree, tried all these options too. Have you dropped any of the VPN service a support note? I think the more of us raise the issue the quicker it’ll get resolved. I’ve sent one off to let them know.

        • Chris says:

          Hi Ali,

This is now working again with Australia – Sydney 3.

  6. Bridget says:

We have express VPN and connected through Sydney 3. I can not access any new shows through 10play. In their troubleshooting section, it says videos will not work with any VPN. I get commercials but once the “video” starts, it’s just a black screen. Any suggestions?

  7. Quynh says:

I just downloaded express vpn, got the server as Australia-Melbourne. But still can’t watch any Aus tv online. It doesn’t work

  8. Angie says:

I’ve downloaded VPN express but it still won’t play. To be fair it does play but it’s a black screen the whole time on Tenplay and the video runs. What am I doing wrong?

    • Chris says:

      Hi Angie,

That’s very strange. Are you trying to cast to a TV? What type of device are you using and do you have another to test on?

  9. Paul says:

Not working with PIA VPN either!

    • Chris says:

Thanks for the update Paul. You should use one of the three recommended providers from above as they’re all tried and tested working. ExpressVPN is the most reliable.

  10. Robin says:

I have managed to set up and watch older Masterchef with ExpressVPN on TenPlay but now running into wanting to watch more current episodes and it requires you to sign up for TenPlay. How can you do this with a USA email? It keeps denying me. Any help?

  11. Sally says:

I have tried Nord VpN and it does not work, it still comes up with the message that you must reside in Australia to watch this. 🙁

    • Chris says:

      Hi Sally,

Thanks for the heads-up. We’ve just tested and agree. We found TenPlay works well with ExpressVPN, IPVanish and CyberGhost VPN. I’ve dropped NordVPN a message and waiting to hear back from them. It might be best if you grab a refund from NordVPN and sign up for ExpressVPN as they’re confirmed working as of today.
