Shaman King has a new anime adaptation that began airing in Japan on April 1st, 2021, on several Japanese TV stations and a week later, each episode is available for streaming on several online services.

At the moment, Crunchyroll or Funimation don’t have the series on simulcast, and probably they won’t in the future.

So, what happens with Netflix? Is Shaman King available for simulcast? Stay with me to find out the answer below!

Is Shaman King on Netflix?

Yes, Shaman King is currently simulcasting on Netflix, but only in Japan.

Netflix holds the rights for streaming worldwide, and it’s going to start in August 2021. But, since Shaman King is scheduled to be 52 episodes in total, when Netflix begins the global streaming, Japan will always be ahead.

Something good about the Netflix Japanese simulcast is it has English subtitles (CC) available.

If you don’t live in Japan, you won’t be able to access Netflix Japan unless you invoke the help of a little app.

What do I need to watch Shaman King on Netflix?

All you need is an app called VPN like ExpressVPN. With this app, you can access Netflix Japan from wherever you are in the world just by using your regular Netflix account.

What is a VPN?

A VPN is a virtual private network that works as an intermediate between your internet connection and your devices. Its main objective is to protect your online activity and to achieve it, the VPN connects to the internet through a server located in another country.

This guarantees that your real IP is not displayed but the IP from the country where you’re connected to. An IP address is a little bit like a phone number, but you don’t need to worry about any of the technical names or details.

This is a great security tool that is as necessary as an anti-virus.

However, a VPN has another perk: to unblock multimedia content that’s not available in all regions due to geo-restrictions.

That’s why this is the app you need to access Netflix Japan and start watching Shaman King.

Which VPN is recommended?

Although the VPN market is saturated with offers, only a few are really worth your time and money.

We always recommended the best one you can find: ExpressVPN. It surpasses the competitors because of its features and performance.

ExpressVPN offers the fastest connection speeds, very intuitive and user-friendly apps, and a guarantee of 30-day money-back if you don’t want to continue with the service.

Also, we have two other options for you: NordVPN and Surfshark. They’re sort of runners up to ExpressVPN with similar features.

The three of them can unblock Netflix Japan without issues – the choice is yours!

What’s Shaman King about?

Shaman King 2021 is based on the manga by the same name by Hiroyuki Takei.

The story follows middle-schooler Manta, who one night meets Yoh Asakura, a young shaman who can talk to spirits.

He also can let spirits take possession of his body, and by doing this, he can use their powers. Yoh also has a big goal: to become a Shaman King by winning the Shaman Fight, a tournament that takes place every 500 years.

But first, he must defeat Hao, a powerful and evil man who wants to be the Shaman King himself.

Part of the original voice cast from the 2001 series is back in this reboot. Also, famous voice actress and singer Megumi Hayashibara is in charge of the opening song again.

Differences with the series from 2001

The Shaman King anime from 2001 is faithful to the manga only in the first half, for around 34 episodes. Takei, the manga creator, helped the anime staff with the story during these episodes, but he had to leave due to time constraints because he was still working on the manga.

For this reason, the second half of the series deviates from the manga and has a different conclusion as well.

The main difference with the 2021 version is this time, the anime adaptation will follow the manga through the end without any deviations.

Something similar to what happens between Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Is Shaman King available on other streaming services?

No, Shaman King is only available on Netflix in Japan, and it will be a Netflix exclusive globally when it gets released on August 9th, 2021.

Summary

If you’re a Shaman King fan, you don’t need to wait till August to start watching Shaman King 2021 on Netflix.

Currently, the series is simulcasting on Netflix Japan, with one episode released every week.

Of course, if you want to access Netflix Japan, you’ll need the help of a VPN like ExpressVPN, which, while it protects your privacy online, also allows you to enjoy your favourite TV shows around the world.

Don’t waste more time and start enjoying Shaman King now before anybody else by subscribing to ExpressVPN!
