Are you on the lookout for the perfect Christmas movie? Fancy a bit of Dickensian atmosphere? Perhaps a comedy legend or two? Lots of laughs but a feelgood message weaved throughout too?

Well, Scrooged might just be the movie for you. This is perfect Christmas fare and everything you want in a movie to kick back on the sofa and enjoy with the family over an egg nog or two.

You could wait for it to be scheduled on some obscure cable channel and fit your plans around it. Or you could find it online and stream it whenever you feel like watching.

The question is, where and how to watch it? And in this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know.

Where is Scrooged available?

Scrooged can be streamed right now on Pluto TV. And what’s more, its free to watch as well.

The only problem is that Pluto TV is only available in a handful of countries. More important, Scrooged is only available on the US service.

If you are based anywhere else, you will need a little help to tune in.

How do I watch Scrooged where I am?

If you’re currently outside the USA and want to stream Scrooged on Pluto TV, you can do so with the help of a VPN app.

A VPN, or virtual private network to give it its full name, is primarily an online security and privacy tool that will redirect your internet data through an external server.

These servers can be located anywhere in the world, and if you connect to one in the USA, it will make it appear as if you are using the internet from the USA as well.

This means that when you try to log into Pluto TV, it is more than happy to let you in and allow you to enjoy watching Scrooged no matter where in the world you are.

So if you’re off on vacation, travelling or away on business, you don’t need to miss out on this all time classic seasonal movie.

Where to get a VPN?

There are literally hundreds of VPNs available online, but if you want to use one to unblock Pluto TV and watch Scrooged, you need to be sure you choose the right one.

So, what are you looking for? You need a VPN that offers plenty of US-based servers, offers fast connection speeds, and which has apps for all the devices you might use to watch.

ExpressVPN is the one to choose.

It offers everything you need, works well with Pluto TV and even comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, which gives you lots of time to try before you buy.

If you don’t fancy ExpressVPN, two alternatives are NordVPN and Surfshark VPN. They both can tick all the boxes and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee too.

Which you end up picking is entirely your choice.

What is Scrooged all about?

Scrooged is a classic Christmas movie based on the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.

In this version, updated for the 1980s, we follow Frank Cross, who is a deeply cynical and hugely selfish TV executive and wannabe yuppie.

Like Scrooge, he is visited by a succession of ghosts in his TV studio who are determined to help him find his Christmas spirit and teach him the true meaning of Christmas.

It is packed full of period humour and references, and while there are laughs aplenty and lots of farce, there are also plenty of darker moments. This has probably helped the film endure despite its rather dated appearance, and it is now undeniably a cult classic and a festive staple for many households.

As the Empire reviewer, William Thomas said, Scrooged is “a slick and cynical update of Dickens’s tale.” He is absolutely right.

Who stars in Scrooged?

Scrooged is a Bill Murray (Caddyshack, Lost in Translation) vehicle. He plays Frank Cross in what was his first movie since the massively successful Ghostbusters four years earlier.

We get to see all of his comedy skills in action here, although he infamously clashed with the creative team and claimed not to have enjoyed his time on the movie. That doesn’t come across in his finished performance, however.

Karen Allen (Indiana Jones, Animal House) plays his long-suffering partner Claire Phillips.

While there are also great performances from a superb ensemble cast that includes John Forsythe (Dynasty, The Trouble with Harry), Bobcat Goldthwait (Police Academy, Sleeping Dogs Lie), Robert Mitchum (The Story of GI Joe, Cape Fear), David Johansen (New York Dolls), Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek, Hill St. Blues), and many more.

Is Scrooged on Netflix?

No, unfortunately, Scrooged cannot be found in any of the Netflix libraries.

Is Scrooged on Disney Plus?

Again, the same is true as with Netflix and Scrooged is not available on Disney Plus anywhere either.

Is Scrooged on any other Streaming Service?

As we have already explained, Scrooged can be found on Pluto TV.

It is also available on Amazon Prime and Paramount+ in some countries, but a subscription is required to view it on these platforms, which is not the case with Pluto TV.

Summary

Scrooged is a Christmas classic and one that is a fixture of many family’s festive TV viewings.

It is not available online everywhere and only for free on Pluto TV. That’s only accessible in the USA, so if you want to watch Scrooged at your leisure this Christmas, you will need a VPN app to help you.

Just sign up for ExpressVPN, download the app, log in, connect to a US-based server, and then log into Pluto TV.

Bill Murray alone is worth the effort, but there is a terrific supporting cast and a classic Christmas tale to be enjoyed here too.
