Argentinian Carolina has an extensive movie background in the cinematic universe. She is our resident TV analyst and a seasoned expert in global streaming platforms. She showcases her comprehensive knowledge through her love for Netflix 'Originals', Frozen, The Good Place, and The Dragon Prince.
Project Hail Mary is considered one of the best films of 2026 so far, and after a successful run at the cinemas, it’s finally landing on streaming services.
Amazon MGM Studios’ production has proved that great films still work perfectly on the big screen.
However, the streaming world is crazy, and films aren’t released at the same time in all markets. Less in the same platform.
So, let’s find out together when and where you can enjoy Project Hail Mary on streaming, and if your country is the lucky one to have it.
The quick version
1. Sign up for ExpressVPN (30-day money-back guarantee)
2. Download the app and connect to a US server
3. Open MGM+ and watch Project Hail Mary
Also, let’s see what Project Hail Mary is about if you haven’t seen it yet.
Where is Project Hail Mary on streaming?
Following the film’s success at the worldwide box office, it was assumed that Project Hail Mary would be released on Prime Video.
After all, it’s an Amazon production. Well, this is not going to happen for the time being.
Project Hail Mary will be released for streaming on 18th June only on MGM+ in selected countries.
You can find Project Hail Mary on MGM+ in the US, Italy, Germany, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, and Chile.
This regional exclusivity is due to some markets still having the movie in cinemas. And some countries, like France, demand by law a longer window between cinema and streaming releases.
If you want to enjoy the movie at home and don’t live in the US, you’ll need some help.
What do I need to watch Project Hail Mary outside the US?
To watch Project Hail Mary on MGM+ outside the US, you need to use a VPN.
Using a VPN allows you to avoid MGM+’s geo-restrictions and watch the movie as if you were in the US.
What is a VPN?
A VPN is a powerful and useful tool designed to protect your online privacy and, as a side effect, lets you access regionally blocked streaming services like MGM+.
When you use a VPN, your internet connection is routed through a server located in another country, which acts as an intermediary between your device and the streaming platform.
If you select a server located in the US, MGM+ will recognise you as if you are there, granting you access to its content.
Configuring and using a VPN is very easy; however, you must be careful when choosing the right VPN.
How to choose the correct VPN
Selecting the right VPN can be challenging for beginners.
But don’t worry, my goal is to help you go through the process to get the best VPN.
My number one recommendation is ExpressVPN, which meets the best features you need in a VPN.
ExpressVPN is the fastest VPN on the market, I’ve found they offer the best connection speeds for a smooth streaming and browsing experience which is really important to avoid buffering and streaming interruptions.
Also, ExpressVPN is known for its user-friendly app available for all devices and operating systems.
Finally, one of the key features is the 30-day money-back guarantee, which ensures your money is safe.
But this is not the only option I’ve got for you. I know that comparing prices and services is necessary to evaluate where to invest your money.
For this reason, I also recommend NordVPN and Surfshark. These two services offer similar features to ExpressVPN for a more affordable price.

What’s Project Hail Mary about?
Project Hail Mary is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, who is widely famous for his sci-fi novel The Martian.
The film is an epic sci-fi dramedy with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (yes, the same guys behind The Lego Movie) in the production and direction.
The story follows Ryland Grace, portrayed by Ryan Gosling, a middle school science teacher who wakes up on a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there.
Little by little, he starts to regain his memories and discovers he’s the sole survivor in a mission to save the sun from an impending death.
During his emotional journey against time, he meets Rocky, a rock spider-like alien who is also on a mission to save his world from the same threat.
Grace and Rocky team up, becoming best friends and partners as they overcome their communication barriers to find a solution and save their planets.
At first glance, Project Hail Mary may appear to be a sci-fi film about saving the world from an impending apocalypse; however, the essence of the movie lies in the relationship between Grace and Rocky.
The film has a narrative split into two timelines. The primary focus is on the present, with Grace and Rocky working to solve the dying suns issue. The secondary one is told through flashbacks showing how Grace ended up in the spacecraft; at the time, he’s recovering his memory.
The film lasts 156 minutes, but trust me, you’ll want it to continue.
Project Hail Mary has received praise from both critics and audiences for its excellent blend of humour, drama, science fiction, and suspense, particularly highlighting Ryan Gosling’s performance, who is essentially the sole actor on screen.
Rahul Menon from Scriptmag opens his review by calling it the kind of film that rekindles your love of cinema, one that blends awe, laughter, heartbreak, and meaning all at once. I can’t agree more!
Cast and crew
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller produced and directed this adaptation of Weir’s book, written by Drew Goddard.
Goddard is a seasoned writer whose credits include Cloverfield, World War Z, The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods, and the creation of Netflix’s Daredevil.
Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, the middle school science teacher and genius molecular biologist, who is sent on a mission to save the sun from its death.
Sandra Hüller plays Eva Stratt, the leader of the international committee behind the Project Hail Mary, who recruits Grace for the project.
James Ortiz, the voice and puppeteer of Rocky, a rock-like alien who is on a similar mission to Grace to save his sun.
My verdict
Project Hail Mary became my favourite movie in a long time. As a fan of Lord and Miller’s filmography, Weir’s books, and Ryan Gosling’s acting, the film exceeded my expectations by far.
I took my daughters to the movies, and despite its long run time, they watched it all and loved it.
Although it is not a movie for children, if your kids are used to watching live-action films, then they can enjoy Project Hail Mary without issues.
The film is an amazing and immersive experience on the big screen. I appreciate that Lord and Miller decided to use practical effects for several scenes and a puppet for Rocky. This is proof that making films using classic methods could be even more effective than all the CGI in the world.
Watching Project Hail Mary feels like watching two movies in one because of the two timelines. And thanks to this narrative device, the audience builds the story as a puzzle until all the pieces fit together.
The science fiction genre always has been the vehicle to deliver a deeper message, in this case, even when the Earth and other worlds are on the verge of extinction because of the dying suns, the theme of the movie is friendship, teamwork, and how putting aside our differences allow us to build strong bonds that change our lives forever, and in the meantime save the world.
What I appreciate about Andy Weir’s books is that they are centred around desperate situations, often involving a race against time. We saw it in The Martian and now in Project Hail Mary. But even in these adverse situations, the characters find a way to resilience and keep going to arrive at a solution. I find this kind of story very inspiring, with a great message about what life is about.
If you haven’t watched Project Hail Mary yet, do it now on streaming; you won’t regret it.
It’s not an exaggeration when I say it’s the best movie of the year.
Summary
Project Hail Mary is now available for streaming on MGM+, but unfortunately, only in select countries.
This means that if you don’t live in any of those countries, you won’t be able to watch it due to geo-blocking.
You can avoid this restriction by using a VPN like ExpressVPN.
