Poldark is back for its final season (cry 🙁 ) and if you want to watch well in advance of the official release in your country, then I’ve got the details you need.
Based on the novel series of the same name by Winston Graham, Poldark is a British historical period drama television series made for the BBC.
The story is set in the late 18th century and revolves around Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner), who comes back to Cornwall after battle in the American War of Independence after spending three years in the army.
The fifth and final season is about to start on Sunday, July 14th replacing Gentleman Jack.
But, where is going to be aired, how can you watch it anywhere in the world before the spoilers? Keep reading, and I’ll show you!
Where is Poldark Season 5 shown?
In the UK, BBC One will show Season 5, and each episode will available on the BBC iPlayer online streaming service at the same time ‘live’ and in full shortly after the broadcast.
And the meantime, if you want to binge the other seasons, they’re all available on BBC iPlayer via the website or app.
Sadly, all these services are blocked outside the UK, but don’t worry! I’ll let you know how you can do to unblock them allowing you to watch Poldark Season 5 well ahead of the release date in your country.
What you’ll need to watch
To skip the geo-blocking that prevents you from watching Poldark on the BBC website and the streaming app, you’ll need a VPN service like ExpressVPN.
VPN: Is a privacy technology used by businesses to secure their remote worker’s connections AND by regular internet users to stay safe online.
Among all the VPN services in the market, ExpressVPN is my favourite one.
It has fast speeds, which is very important at the moment of streaming video, it’s effortless to configure and to use, and it has a 30-day back money guarantee in the case you don’t like the service.
Other good options are NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN that works well. It’s up to you which service you choose based on your preferences.

How to watch Poldark Season 5
Now, I’ll show how easily you can get your VPN working, just following these steps. It doesn’t matter which service you’re going to subscribe to because this tutorial works with all of them.
However, in the example, I’m using ExpressVPN.
Step 1
First, you need to create an account with ExpressVPN. You’ll also need to provide your payment details.
To watch the entire season of Poldark, you’ll need to subscribe monthly for at least two months, but it works out cheaper to subscribe for 12-months letting you watch other shows such as Gentleman Jack, Beecham House, Fleabag and other great British shows.
Step 2
Now, you need you to get the app according to your device. You’ll find all the available apps for all devices and OS under the Products section.
Download the VPN app.
Also, if you’re on a mobile device with Android or Apple iOS, you can search for it on the app store.
Step 3
With the app installed, log in with the account you already created on step 1.
Step 4
Now select the … button near Selected Location. Then choose the United Kingdom from the list.
The VPN is going to fool the apps and websites you’ll use and makes them believe your actual location is the UK.
Once connected, you’re able to watch Poldark on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and all the other content available there.
When is Season 5 being shown?
Poldark season 5 is going to start airing on Sunday, July 14th at 9 pm (UK time) on BBC One.
Shortly after the broadcast, the episode will be on the BBC iPlayer although you can watch ‘live’ too.
The rest of the season will continue airing on Sunday evenings at the same time slot.
The season airs first in the UK before other countries, so you’ll be able to watch it well in advance.
That’s 4 pm EDT or 1 pm PDT in the United States. You can also use the website The Time Zone Converter to work out the exact time in your country.

Recap what happened in Season 4
Season 4 covers three years in the story, from 1796 until 1799. Like the previous seasons, it’s full of drama and suffering for the characters, along with Ross Poldark being a problematic character that hardly learns from his past mistakes.
Aidan Turner who plays Poldark.
The season finale left the audience in shock after a rollercoaster of emotions that mixed joy and drama in equal parts. However, tragedy hits hard in the shape of Elizabeth’s death.
The relationship between Ross and Demelza is in constant tension, and now Elizabeth and Hugo are gone, maybe they can make up, stop suspecting each other, and finally find their way together.
One of the happy events at the end of season 4 is Drake and Morwenna’s wedding. Of course, the path to that happy ending wasn’t easy, but in this series, no one has things easy at all.
Who’s new and coming back in Season 5?
All the old characters are back for season 5. Aidan Turner stars as Ross Poldark and Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza.
Aidan Turner was previously known by his role of Mitchel in the British series Being Human, and then by his role as Kili in The Hobbit trilogy. While Eleanor Tomlinson was already known by her role as Isabelle in Jack the Giant Slayer and Isabel Neville in The White Queen.
Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza.
Jack Farthing (Botticelli in Da Vinci’s Demons) returns as George Warleggan, and Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde as Dwight and Caroline Enys.
And of course, after getting married in season 4, Drake and Morwenna Carne (Harry Richardson and Elise Chappell) will be appearing too.
Regarding new characters, inevitably there will be some new ones, but the details about them haven’t been disclosed yet.
There are however some actors and actresses names that have been released who’ll be making an appearance: Lily Dodsworth Evans (genius), Kerri McLean (Electric Dreams), Sofia Oxenham (Grantchester), Vincent Regan (300), Peter Sullivan (Entebbe) and Freddie Wise (Maleficent 2).
What can we expect in Season 5?
The original rumour was that Debbie Horsfield (the series showrunner) was going to follow the steps of the next novel by Winston Graham, to inspire the fifth season.
But since the book is set ten years later from the book in which season 4 is based on, the BBC preferred to fill in the missing points and avoiding ageing the character to be 50 years old.
So, season 5 won’t keep the path of the novels but instead will focus in closing all the loose ends the series has left open until now.
As always Poldark is about trying to restore his lost fortune and reclaim his love but as nothing ever runs smoothly as we’ll discover in Season 5. Can Poldark change his destiny?
Summary
Poldark is coming to an end on season 5 that’s going to start airing on July 14th (Sunday) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
After suffering from these characters for four complete seasons, the so much feared ending is approaching, but if you live outside the UK, you’ll need a VPN service to watch it on the BBC.
ExpressVPN is the best option for streaming videos and with a money back guarantee.
So, don’t waste time! Subscribe to them, get the app, and start to binge Poldark well ahead of your friends AND avoid the spoilers that will fill the web after it’s aired in the UK.
