5 Netflix Movies You Don’t Want to Miss | March 2019

Carolina, a resident of Argentina is a movie buff through and through. She enjoys nothing more than binge-watching the latest Netflix series and is a big fan of their 'Originals' line. Her favourite movie is Frozen and she's a big fan of The Good Place & The Dragon Prince.

As every month, Netflix has a lot of new additions to its catalogue, and a bunch of exciting movies are hitting this March.

The Netflix Originals cover every genre including drama, thriller, adventure, and mostly indie films.

So, I’ve got five titles that are going straight into my watch list when March arrives, and if you’re looking for some new movies too, these could be right up your street.

1. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

I have a soft spot for memoir adaptations, and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind caught my attention ever since it premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Based on the book of the same name, this movie tells the story of a boy in Malawi who helps his village to build a wind turbine based on what he read in a book.

It will be available on Netflix on March 1st, so, this is going to be my first choice to start the month.

2. Triple Frontier

I’m always eager to watch Netflix Originals because these movies have a different flavour to the average Hollywood production, even when some of them get a limited release in selected theatres as is going to happen with Triple Frontier.

Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, and Pedro Pascal come together in this action-packed thriller in which five Special Forces operatives plan a heist in a multi-border region in South America.

This movie is the highlight among the newcomers since it is the most commercial one with strong Hollywood names in the main cast. Be ready to watch it on March 15th.

3. The Burial of Kojo

The Burial of Kojo is set to released on March 31st, and it promises to be a beautiful visual journey.

This Ghanian film, the opera prima by artist and musician Samuel “Blitz” Bazule, has won awards in movie festivals in Africa, and thanks to Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY distribution company it is coming to Netflix.

A man is trapped in a mine as the result of a conflict with his brother, and his young daughter begins a magical journey to rescue him. Drama and tragedy meet fantasy and adventure through the eyes of a child.

There are a couple of good none-Netflix Originals this month, there are two that I’m going to pay special attention.

They’re among my favourite ones, the kind of movies I’ve got on DVD and Bluray because I want to watch them regularly. And they’re going to be greatly welcomed and appreciated on Netflix’s catalogue.

4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has become a classic movie since its release 18 years ago.

Winning the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film back in 2001, it provided director Ang Lee with worldwide fame. It also won Oscars in other categories such as cinematography, music, and art direction.

The story is quite simple: a young warrior steals a sword from a famous swordsman and then escapes with a man to the frontier of the nation. But what sets this movie apart from the rest is the beauty of its photography, and how the story is told directly through imaginative and beautiful scenery mixed with fantastic fighting choreography of flying Chinese warriors.

It has adventure, drama, and action. Ang Lee delivers a world full of beauty and fantasy to portray an ancient tale of romance, revenge, and adventure.

Not one to miss if you haven’t seen it, and if you have – it’s worth watching again!

5. Saving Mr Banks

With Mary Poppins Returns still running in theatres around the world, Saving Mr Banks hits Netflix at the right time. The story of how Walt Disney convinced P. L. Travers, Mary Poppins books’ author to let him make the original movie adaptation works as well as Travers’ biopic.

I saw it at the movies when it was released back in 2013 and it became a very dear movie to me. It’s not only about the making of Mary Poppins, but about how Travers’ life was tough and pierced by tragedy and the way she filtered those experiences in her books.

Tom Hanks is in the shoes of Walt Disney, and for a moment is easy to believe the real Walt is there. Emma Thompson is faultless as P.L. Travers, and the dynamic between the two of them is the main driving force through the film.

Of course, there are going to be more releases during March, but definitely, these five are the ones you don’t want to miss.

I would love to hear what movies you’re looking forward to this month so why not let me know in the comments section below?
