In most countries if the IPL is even available to watch then it’s often only available on premium TV packages so if you don’t have one then you’re out of luck.
The great news is you can watch the IPL 2016 online anywhere in the world and all it takes is a few minutes to set up and then you can be watching the IPL in any country.
Thankfully there is a simple solution allowing you to watch all the action live online anywhere. So let’s find out how.
How to watch the IPL 2016 online anywhere in the world
StarSports from India show all the matches and if you’re in India or one of the neighbouring countries then you’re able to watch the IPL 2016 without issue. However, if you’re outside that region and you visit the site then you’re blocked from viewing. Rather than see the cricket you’re hit with a block screen that will look similar to the one below.
To bypass this block you need to use a service called a Virtual Private Network which is known by it’s more common abbreviation, a VPN.
A VPN allows you to virtually reside in another country. So let’s say you’re in the UK for example and you want to watch the IPL 2016 on StarSports. If you visit you’re blocked but with a VPN you can make it appear as if you are in India and rather than be blocked you’ll be able to watch.
The great thing is you can watch from anywhere in the world!
A VPN comes in the form of a piece of software you download to your computer. They’re also available as an app for tablets and phones but you would need the StarSports app already installed to use it on one of those devices.

To watch the IPL 2016 you’re going to need a VPN that offers a connection point in India. This is known as a VPN server so you’re looking for a provider with an Indian VPN server.

The second factor to consider is speed. When you’re streaming live cricket from India to wherever you are in the world you need a fast VPN service otherwise you’ll be plagued by buffering and stuttering which will ruin your enjoyment of the IPL.

How do I use the VPN
First decide whether you want to watch on a Windows or Mac computer. The software from the three recommended providers above all works similarly. Download either the Windows or Mac software.
The process simply involves you installing the software, logging in and then connecting to an Indian server. Once you’re connected you can visit the StarSports Cricket page.
In the example below I’ll show you a step-by-step guide using IPVanish but the other two providers are pretty much the same.
- Visit the VPN Software section on the IPVanish website and download either the Windows or Mac software.
- Install and run it.
- Next to the flag highlighted in red in the image below select OpenVPN (UDP).
- On the left-hand side select Server Selection.
- Select List.
- In the Search box type India.
- Choose the option at the top of the list.
- Press Connect.
The IPVanish software will now take care of connection for you.
Once it has connected all that is left to do is visit the StarSports website and you’ll be able to watch all the IPL 2016 matches live online from any country in the world.
