How to watch HBO Nordic abroad

If you’ve got a HBO Nordic subscription then you’ll know like me all the quality shows and programmes that are available to watch on the service.

It’s actually a really good service but one of the huge negatives is when you’re abroad you can’t access HBO Nordic.

If like me you’ve tried to access your HBO Nordic account outside your home country then you’ll be disappointed to see a huge block message.

I’m always a little confused why services like HBO Nordic do this because after all you’re paying a premium subscription for the service so having access outside your home country should be possible.

Unfortunately it’s not but in this article I’m going to show you the incredibly easy way in which you can watch outside your home country.

How to watch HBO Nordic abroad

When you visit the HBO Nordic service outside Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland you’ll be stopped from viewing and see a big block message like the one below.

Which is really not fair because you’re paying a premium subscription price to access the service.

So if you’re travelling outside one of the intended countries on work, holiday or even if you’re an expat then you’ll want to access in your location.

The great news is a simple tool called a VPN or Virtual Private Network will allow you to watch HBO Nordic abroad.

A VPN comes as a small piece of software for your computer or mobile device, they’re offered by hundreds of companies but my favourite is ExpressVPN due to their 30-day money back guarantee protection.

A VPN takes your connection and reroutes it through another country to allow you to disguise your online location and virtually reside elsewhere.

How to use the VPN

The great news is you can use the VPN service on both your computer or mobile device so whatever you want to watch HBO Nordic on will be possible.

Firstly you need to download either the software from the VPN provider’s website or for your mobile device from either the Google Play or Apple store.

Once downloaded and installed all you need to do is connect to either Sweden, Finland, Norway or Denmark for your required version of the site. Then just visit the HBO Nordic website.

I’ve put together a little more in-depth guide below using ExpressVPN on a Windows PC but the process is exactly the same on a Mac and much the same from the other providers only their software looks a little different.

ExpressVPN:

1. First visit the ExpressVPN website and sign-up.
2. Download the software from the Products area of their website.
3. Install and run it.
4. Press Choose Location. Then press All and Europe.
5. Select the country of your HBO Nordic account.
6. If the app doesn’t automatically connect, press Connect.

ExpressVPN let’s you access HBO Nordic anywhere.

The ExpressVPN software will now make connection to the country of your choice.

Once the software has connected there is nothing more left to do but to visit the HBO Nordic website.

Once there you’ll now be able to watch all your favourite shows anywhere in the world as if you were back in your home country.
