So what’re you waiting for? Keep reading to discover how.

Oh, and pay close attention to the step-by-step guide; you’ll be streaming the show in minutes.

Where is The Gallows Pole being shown?

The Gallows Pole is available to watch on the UK’s BBC Two and their online streaming service BBC iPlayer.

Unfortunately, you won’t have access to the show if you’re outside of the British Isles.

Thankfully, I can help with this issue.

How do I watch The Gallows Pole where I am?

Watching The Gallows Pole outside of the UK is easier than it might seem. And no, I’m not going to send you to some dodgy-looking streaming site.

What you need is a VPN app. Unsure what a VPN app is?

A VPN is an online security tool that helps you mask your location while protecting your private data from being leaked online.

“But how does that help me unblock The Gallows Pole?” I hear you ask.

Using a VPN hides your location while providing you with a “virtual location” such as the UK. This allows you to trick BBC iPlayer into thinking you’re in the UK even when you’re not.

I used this sneaky little trick many times to stream Peaky Blinders while I was in Rome, and it’s pretty handy if you ask me.

I’ve used it to unblock online streaming services such as:

  • ITVX
  • Channel 4
  • BBC iPlayer
  • HBO Max
  • Peacock TV
  • Netflix
  • Disney Plus
  • Amazon Prime
  • 10Play
  • 7Plus
  • And more…

Using a VPN ensures I can always watch my favourite TV shows while I’m overseas, and you’ll be able to do the same.

Where to get a VPN?

Before you head on to Google looking for a VPN, there’s something that you need to know, and it’s a critical factor in whether or not you’ll be able to watch The Gallows Pole in your country.

Not all VPNs work with BBC iPlayer.

In fact, there are only a small number of VPNs that I’ve found to work consistently with the streaming platform.

To help you navigate this issue, I’ve tested the best options and found ExpressVPN to be your number one option.

During my tests, the ExpressVPN app was simple to use and allowed me to make a connection in one click. I even tasked my parents to try it out, and they found it easy to use and established a connection with no issues.

I also experienced super-fast connection speeds, allowing me to stream in full HD without lagging or buffering. This is ideal if you’re in a remote location as it’ll let you watch interruption free.

Two alternatives that you can try are NordVPN and Surfshark VPN.

All three services worked incredibly well with BBC iPlayer, and I didn’t suffer any problems with these VPN apps. You’re free to choose but ExpressVPN was certainly the one that worked best for me.

The icing on the cake is the 30-day money-back guarantee which they all come with, so you can test them risk-free.

What’s The Gallows Pole all about?

Let’s talk about The Gallows Pole.

The premise and plot of The Gallows Pole

The Gallows Pole is a period drama series set during the industrial revolution in 18th-century Yorkshire, England.

It’s a fictionalised take on the Cragg Vale Coiners and David Hartley as they try to adjust to life now that the world has changed.

Unfortunately, Yorkshire was an area of poverty, with many of the commoners starving and struggling to find work, even with the newly constructed cotton mills nearby. And to make matters worse, there are a handful of “fat cats” capitalising on the large amount of wealth the factories are producing.

It’s usually the way, even in modern times, right?

To try and even the odds and bring some comfort to the local people, David Hartley puts together a rag-tag bunch of land workers and weavers to help him embark on his criminal enterprise.

I like to think of Hartley as an industrial revolution version of Robin Hood.

If you’re a fan of period dramas, you’ll find this show rather entertaining and will no doubt enjoy every moment of it.

The main characters and their roles in the show

There are many characters in The Gallows Pole, but some of the main ones include:

The show’s main protagonist David Hartley is played by Michael Socha, who’s starred in many British productions such as This Is England, Shank, Bonded by Blood, Papillon, and more.

He’s joined by British actress Nicole Barber-Lane who’s best known for her long stint on the popular daytime television show Hollyoaks. She’s also starred in Being Sold, Bodies, Race For Life: Girls Just Want To Have Fun, and What Would Julie Do?

Joining the cast is Samuel Edward-Cook, this Yorkshire-born actor who is best known for Peaky Blinders, Land Girls, Magwitch, Brief Encounters, Innocent, Casualty, and Emmerdale.

Critical Reception of The Gallows Pole

Unfortunately for The Gallows Pole, it hasn’t had the best reviews.

It seems to be averaging between 3/5 stars and 5/10 stars from viewer ratings, which isn’t great if you ask me.

Yet Lucy Mangan of The Guardian Newspaper has given the show full marks stating that “Shane Meadows’s period drama is an absolute must-see,” which has left me a little conflicted.

I get that the show is at a much slower pace than some viewers like, but I didn’t think some of the poorer reviews were that justified. But I guess you’d need to watch the show for yourself and see what you think.

If you want to watch The Gallows Pole in your country, you need a VPN app. After extensive testing, I recommend using ExpressVPN.

During my tests, ExpressVPN had incredible connection speeds that were ideal for watching TV shows in full HD. I had no problems accessing BBC iPlayer, which was nice to see, as many other VPNs I tested didn’t work with the streaming service.

Sign up for ExpressVPN today and start watching The Gallows Pole right now, right where you are.
