One of the biggest events in yearly football takes place. The FA Cup Final will take place at Wembley Stadium. British football has a massive following around the world and the English Premier League is arguably the most popular league in the world.
It doesn’t matter if you’re English and abroad or from outside the UK wanting to watch the FA Cup Final online it’s natural and if it’s not available in your country or not for free then it can mean disappointment all round.
We’ve put together this simple guide to show how you can watch the FA Cup Final online for free on BBC iPlayer.
How to watch the FA Cup Final Online
The FA Cup will be streamed live on BBC iPlayer. Live coverage will start at 16:15 BST (18:15 CEST) and kick off an hour and 15 minutes later at 17:30 BST (18:30 CEST). BBC iPlayer is only officially available in the UK and if you visit the site from outside you’ll be hit with a big blocked message, but don’t worry, we’ll show you how to avoid that.
Your internet connection gives away your physical location so iPlayer can determine where you are and if it sees you’re outside the UK then it will automatically block you.
Luckily there is a small piece of software called a VPN which allows you to virtually reside in any country in the world. VPN services are provided by a range of VPN providers and come at a small monthly cost, so while the match will be free on BBC iPlayer you’ll need to buy a VPN service to watch it outside the UK.
Don’t worry though they’re extremely cheap and you get the service for the whole month so you can use it to watch other things too!
There are hundreds of VPN providers and some are not all that great being too slow to watch live football. One provider that we do recommend due to their great speed is IPVanish, to watch live video or football online they’re the best option. Their service costs US$10 per month (Approx €9 / £6.45) and works on Windows PC, Mac, Android and iOS (iPhone / iPad) meaning you’ll be able to watch on any of those devices.
You can pay with Paypal, Credit / Debit card, Bitcoin, Paysafecard and a whole host of other payment methods.
How do I use the VPN to watch the FA Cup
Once you’ve signed up to IPVanish or one of the other providers you’ll be provided with a link to download their software or apps.
Download the correct one for your device.
Once downloaded and installed simply pick a UK Server and press connect. Once you’ve connected visit BBC iPlayer at 16:15 BST (17:15 CEST) and you’ll be able to stream the FA Cup Final live online.
It really is that simple! Once you’ve watched the FA Cup you just hit disconnect and your internet connection returns to normal.
A VPN works by routing your internet traffic via a UK location so iPlayer thinks you’re in the UK no matter where you are in the world. As far as iPlayer is concerned you’re in the UK. There is no additional cost.
What else can I do with the VPN afterwards
Once the match has taken place and either team has been crowned champions you’ll have a whole month of VPN service left to use. This can be used to watch anything on BBC iPlayer or any of the other UK streaming channels like ITV Player, All 4 (previously 4OD) or Demand 5.
You can also use it to watch US stations such as Hulu, CBS and more. So you actually get a lot of content for your $10 and it isn’t just limited to the FA Cup. It’s why a lot of people sign up for a year and use the service all year round to stream content from around the world.
Enjoy watching the FA Cup Final online!
