It’s possible to tap into the American Netflix website with your Indian Netflix account and not only access a different selection of movies and TV shows but also access more content.
American Netflix has a much bigger selection than almost all other countries. In fact, apart from the Japanese Netflix site, they have the biggest selection over any other country.
Below I’m going to show you how in just a few easy steps you can login to the American Netflix website using your regular Indian Netflix details.
Watch American Netflix in India
When you login to the Netflix website it automatically knows what country you’re in based on your internet connection.
So if you’re in India and you visit the Netflix website you’re given the Indian Netflix edition, if you’re in America then you get the American edition, if you’re in the UK you get British Netflix and so on.
The Netflix website decides this from your internet connection.
However, by using a small app called a ‘VPN‘ you can make it look as if you’re in another country. When you use a VPN app and login to the Netflix website in India you’re able to get the American Netflix edition.

A VPN is a small app available for almost all devices such as computers, laptops, tablets, phones and even the Amazon Fire TV and Firestick.
Its original purpose is to protect your online privacy and a feature of this is to allow you to disguise your location and appear elsewhere. This is what ‘unlocks‘ American Netflix.
How to watch American Netflix in India Step-by-Step
To watch American Netflix in India using a VPN you’ll first need to choose a VPN provider that works for this purpose.
I’ve tested a whole host and below are my favourite three:
Below I’ll be using ExpressVPN as my example. I prefer them for watching American Netflix a little more than the other two but they all work and you can choose any.

- Once you’ve signed up go to the ‘Products‘ section of their website and download the correct app for your device. It works with all Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS, Fire TV and Fire Stick devices, plus a few more too.
- Install the app on your device and open it.
- From the ‘My Account‘ section of the ExpressVPN website copy your Activation Code and enter it into the app.
- On the app press Choose Location (1.) and double click on United States (2.). The app should automatically connect but if not click the large Connect button (3.).
- Once the app has connected visit the Netflix website and login like normal.

Having problems?
Occasionally you may run into issues. The most common is the ‘server’ you connect to is not compatible with American Netflix.
When you connect to ExpressVPN or your VPN provider it assigns you to a ‘server’ which can be located anywhere in America. Occasionally these get blocked by Netflix.
A server is a computer owned by the VPN service that passes all of your data through. It tags your connection with the American location to help you watch American Netflix in India.
The solution is to choose another server in a different city.
On ExpressVPN press Choose Location then All then Americas. Next press the drop down arrow next to United States and double click on one of the cities there.
The ExpressVPN app will start to make connection and once connected all you need to do is visit the Netflix website.
What’s on American Netflix
Netflix is the best streaming website in the world without a doubt and there is little competition from alternative services in India.
This is where the problems start. With few international services competing it means your options are limited.
American Netflix has some content the same as Indian Netflix but it also has more content.
According to the website Finder, American Netflix has 4052 movies currently with Indian Netflix having just 3022. You don’t need me to tell you that’s nearly 1000 extra movies on the American Netflix website.
With a VPN you can access them all using your regular Indian Netflix account details. You don’t need an American Netflix account.
American Netflix also has 1580 TV shows compared with just 1310 on the Indian Netflix site. So that’s a further 250+ TV shows you’ll get access to when using a VPN.
