1) Cities of Last Things

2018 – Taiwan – Drama – 107 minutes

This co-production between companies from Taiwan, China, France and the United States was initially released in the Platform program at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

It won the Platform Prize that year, and now it arrives as a Netflix original to the streaming service.

The story is told in reverse chronological order and shows three critical incidents in the life of Zhang Dong Ling. These pivotal points will lead him to make a dramatic decision at present.

Each of the three segments belongs to different genres. The first one is science fiction set in a dystopian future, the second one is a film noir, and the last one is a melodrama.

2) Kidnapping Stella

2019 – Germany – Thriller – 89 minutes

In their tradition of bringing independent international films to their catalogue, Netflix will be streaming this German production.

Two masked men kidnapped a young woman in the street. Stella (Jella Haase), who happened to be the daughter of a millionaire, is taken to a soundproof apartment as part of a very detailed kidnapping plan.

But the perfect plan isn’t going to be so perfect because Stella is going to fight back and hard.

3) Point Blank

2019 – USA – Action, Thriller, 86 minutes

This time we’re talking about a true Netflix original packed with action. Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo reunite again, but this time outside the Marvel Universe, to star in this fast-paced thriller.

An emergency nurse (Mackie) is attacked, and his pregnant wife is kidnapped. Now, he must join forces with a criminal and murder suspect (Grillo) who can help him to save his wife.

A corrupted city, two very different characters teaming up to beat the bad guys, all combined in a turbo-charged action packed thriller, coming to Netflix on July 12th.

4) Girls with Balls

2018 – France, Belgium – Horror, Comedy

What happens if you mix sports with horror? You get this horror comedy about an all-girls volleyball team that gets stranded in a forest at the mercy of a crazy hunter’s territory and the season is open.

If you’re in the mood for silly humour, and a gonzo style horror, this movie is for you.

5) The Red Sea Diving Resort

2019 – Canada, USA – Drama, History, Thriller – 129 minutes

Scheduled to be released on Netflix on July 31st, this biographical drama is directed by Gideon Raff (Homeland).

Chris Evans heads the cast, and it’s completed by Haley Bennet, Ben Kingsley, and Greg Kinnear.

Based on the real events in which Mossad agents worked to rescue and evacuate Jewish-Ethiopians from Sudan to Israel.

The movie began development in March 2017 and started being shot in June. On February 2019, Netflix acquired the distribution rights.
