There are plenty of movies that are best experienced alone, films where the story requires the viewer’s focus and figuring things out as you go.

However, today, I wanted to share a list of movies that are the opposite, the best movies to watch with friends.

Whether we are discussing a girls’ night for you and your friends or a watch party where all the boys can come to watch horror movies, superhero movies, and more, watching movies with friends is the best experience.

Now, the list I have prepared is by no means complete. There are numerous other great films with great actors and actresses, like Maya Rudolph, Olivia Wilde, Lisa Kudrow, and others.

However, the list that I’m about to share has 15 movies, each of them a perfect watch for you and your best friends, coming from Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, New Line Cinema, and more.

Check them out, see which ones you like the most, and enjoy them with your friends (or alone!).

13 Going on 30 (2004)

The first on the list of best movies to watch with friends is 13 Going on 30.

This is a very fun movie to watch with friends, which revolves around a young girl in junior high who is sick of the social strictures holding her back. Then, she suddenly gets transformed into a grownup overnight.

The girl, called Jenna, becomes a 30-year-old and believes that being a grown-up will mean that all of her problems will go away.

Of course, it doesn’t take long for her to discover that grown-ups have an entire world of problems that teenagers do not.

The movie is a must-watch if you wish to share some fun time with your friends, and it leads to some pretty hilarious situations.

All in all, it is a great comedy about school, drama of being a teenager, followed by the fight in the unforgiving world of adulthood.

The film stars Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Christa B. Allen, Judy Greer, Brie Larson, Andy Serkis, and others.

Toy Story (1995)

Another of the best movies to watch with friends is Toy Story.

The movie industry blew up with animated films after this one came out and it attracted massive popularity. Definitely an extremely fun watch, it is a movie about toys that are alive, but they continue to pretend that they are inanimate objects in front of humans,

When Andy, a young boy with a room full of toys, gets a new toy for his birthday, the new arrival disrupts the balance of the toys’ society.

This creates a problem for the cowboy Woody, and before long, he and the new toy, Buzz Lightyear, a popular space ranger toy, end up in trouble.

This is a fairly old film as of today, and most of us saw it with our childhood friends a long time ago. If you wish to rewatch it, it is definitely a great choice to watch with your best friend or even a larger group.

The film stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Erik von Detten, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, Debi Derryberry, and others.

The First Wives Club (1996)

Moving on, we have The First Wives Club, which is definitely a fun film that starts with a sad event, but things quickly turn around.

Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film begins when a middle-aged divorcee plunges to her death from her penthouse after she discovers that her ex-husband married a much younger woman.

Her funeral attracts her former college friends, who reunite for the first time in 30 years, only to discover that they all have exes who have taken them for granted.

Of course, they make a pact to get their revenge, which turns a drama into a fun comedy.

And, along the way, they also discover the mystery of their friend’s suicide.

The film has a great story, and you can easily get into it with new friends and old.

The film stars Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Maggie Smith, and others.

Avatar (2009)

Women watching Avatar on a tablet

When it comes to the best movies to watch with friends, it doesn’t get better than one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Of course, I am talking about Avatar. This movie has been the most popular one for a decade and a half now, thanks to its stunning visuals, and it has been watched and re-watched, especially now that Avatar 2 also came out.

The story of Avatar revolves around a US marine, Jake Sully, whose brother participated in a program where he transferred his mind into a huge alien body, artificially grown by humans.

The body was created to allow humans to establish contact with an alien tribe on the planet called Pandora.

However, after Jake’s brother was killed in a mugging, Jake, his twin, was invited to take his place.

This is one of the best movies to watch with friends, and one of the cinematic marvels that had a major impact on pop culture.

The Guardian called it a “folie de grandeur and vast, mystifying epic sci-fi fantasy that at the time was solemnly praised for its introduction of a new, improved immersive 3D technology.”

The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and others.

Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)

Another one of the very good movies for the girl movie night is Fried Green Tomatoes. The plot follows Evelyn Couch, a housewife who visits relatives at a nursing home, where she meets an outgoing old woman called Ninny Treadgoode.

As the two start talking, Ninny shares colorful stories of her past, including that of her sister-in-law Idgie, a young woman in 1920s Alabama, who owned a cafe, and had a strong bond with her friend, Ruth.

Through these stories, Evelyn gets inspired and collects confidence that allows her to transform her life.

It is an inspiring film, and while it did not blow up, leaving a huge mark on pop culture, it is one of the great movies that best friends have been watching around the world for over three decades now.

The film stars Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, Jessica Tandy, Cicely Tyson, and others.

The Dark Knight (2008)

One of the best movies to watch with friends is the title that most will likely recognize right away, The Dark Knight.

It revolves around an epic story about the eternal fight between Batman and Joker, a war that has tightened friendship after friendship for generations, ever since one character met the other for the first time in a comic book from 1940.

This is a movie that boys and girls tend to enjoy in equal measure, filled with impressive scenes that mostly take place at night, as the dark crusader keeps watching over the troubled city of Gotham.

The movie was a rather big success when it came out, instantly becoming a fan favorite in its own right, outperforming the first movie in the trilogy with ease, thanks to Heath Ledger’s epic performance.

The film stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, and others.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Pulp Fiction is an interesting movie that follows several storylines that revolve around people in the world of crime. The iconic character of Vincent Vega, or that his partner Jules Winnfield, has inspired a number of memes, gifs, and quotes that have been in circulation for almost 30 years.

The two are hitmen that regularly engage in philosophical discussions, and their stories get interwoven with those of their boss, Marsellus, his wife Mia, a master fixer Winston, a struggling boxer Butch, and others.

Out of all the movies on this list, this is probably the most iconic one, and if you never saw it, definitely give it a go with your best friends.

The film stars John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Christopher Walken, and others.

Waiting to Exhale (1995)

Halfway down our list of the best movies to watch with friends, we have Waiting To Exhale. This is a movie about four women, and one thing that these four friends share is difficulties when it comes to navigating their love lives.

Two of them are mistresses of married men, one was left by her husband who chose his own mistress over her, while the fourth one manages to find love with a new neighbor.

Each character has her own story to tell, and while their relationships are neither fun nor healthy, they offer a great source of entertainment if you are looking for a good movie to watch with friends and learn about some of the pitfalls of life from someone else’s example.

The film stars Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, Lela Rochon, Loretta Devine, Dennis Haysbert, and others.

Pitch Perfect (2012)

If you and your best friend need a good, fun movie to enjoy, then definitely give Pitch Perfect a go. This is a movie about a college student called Beca, who finds herself in a dreaded situation as she arrives at her new school.

Determined to make the best of her situation, she discovers that the only thing that all of the girls in the new school have in common is that they are perfect when it comes to singing together.

With the top college music competition approaching, she decides to whip the group into shape and lead them to victory.

A hilarious school comedy for the most part, the movie will definitely give you a laugh or two as you watch, and I believe that it will be twice as good if you share it with your friends.

The film stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Elizabeth Banks, Hana Mae Lee, and others.

Knives Out (2019)

Up next on the list of the best movies to watch with friends, we have Knives Out.

This is a movie that follows a renowned detective, Benoit Blanc, as he delves deep into the web of lies, red herrings, and just pure danger in order to uncover the mystery behind the death of a well-known crime journalist.

The circumstances of his death are anything but straightforward, and Blanc believes that the killer might be someone from the journalist’s family.

And, given how dysfunctional the family is, pretty much everyone is a suspect.

This is a great option if you like a good mystery involving a group where anyone could be the killer, and a perfect option for a movie-watch party for Saturday night.

The film stars Ana de Armas, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, and others.

Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Another great movie that you can watch with your friends is Always Be My Maybe.

It is a story about Marcus and Sasha, childhood sweethearts who had a falling out, and stopped speaking entirely for 15 years.

However, when they meet again as adults, they discover that the old sparks are still there. The problem is, the two now live in completely different worlds, and their lives might not be compatible.

This is a very relatable movie, as most people have someone with whom they lost contact at some point in their life.

So, what will happen? Will the two go their separate ways again? Will they try to build a friendship? Or will the old sparks be enough for them to transcend their differences?

The film stars Ali Wong, Randall Park, Keanu Reeves, Michelle Buteau, Daniel Dae Kim, Vivian Bang, and others.

The Avengers (2012)

One of the biggest gems that this list has to offer for you to watch is, of course, the 2012’s movie, The Avengers. Only one of the brilliant stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is a movie that is still considered one of the best achievements of superhero films.

It has been over a decade since it came out, and today we know that the events of the movie are only an introduction to what’s to come.

Even so, this is a movie that every Marvel fan has to watch. It has comedy, drama, action, explosions, and more, while its heroes are constantly in life-or-death situations.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Marvel movie if the fate of the world didn’t depend on a small, handpicked group of extraordinary heroes who stand alone against a massive alien army commanded by the Norse god of mischief.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, and others.

Frances Ha (2012)

Moving on, we have a movie that will not only help you strengthen your friendship with your best friend, but it might also help you shed your fears and make that move that you always wanted to, but never dared before.

It is a story about a woman from New York who lives her dreams, even though that means abandoning security and comfort that the rest of us rely on every day.

She has no apartment; she apprentices for a dance company even though she is not a dancer, and, generally, she does as she pleases.

Frances, the woman that has the same name as the movie, still feels directionless, which is also something that a lot of people can understand.

And, even if you do not share things like turbulent relationships, roommate issues, and comparisons in your own group of friends, this is still one of the best movies to watch with a friend.

The film stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Driver, Mickey Sumner, Michael Zegen, Grace Gummer, Michael Esper, and others.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Speaking of movies to watch with your bestie, I couldn’t make this list without including Forrest Gump.

The movie follows a man, Forrest Gump, throughout his life,  from the early days and troubles he endured in school, to events that led him to meet Kennedy and Johnson, to the war in Vietnam during the period of the Watergate scandal, and countless other situations.

Despite his IQ of 75, Gump has led an amazing life, achieving more things in one lifetime than most people would in several.

The movie will make you both laugh and cry, and I cannot stress enough how great it is. Definitely one of the best movies to watch on a Saturday night with your friends next to you.

The film stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field, Mykelti Williamson, and others.

Booksmart (2019)

Last, but not least, I leave you with Booksmart. This is a story about two best friends, Amy and Molly, who are both academic overachievers, constantly with their noses in a book.

While they definitely perform better than their peers, they also realized a bit too late that they “wasted” their youth by ignoring the parties, relationships, and everything else that comes with that.

So, determined to make up for all the special moments that they missed during their teenage years, they decide to live a little.

However, they don’t have the time to make this their first summer of going with the flow, instead, they decide to cram four years of fun into one night.

As you can imagine, everything ends up being far more chaotic than enjoyable. But, if you and your friends wish to see everything for yourself, then I definitely recommend watching this movie.

The film stars Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Diana Silvers, Molly Gordon, Jason Sudeikis, and others.

Did one of your favorites make the list? I would love to know. Or do you have a movie that I should have included? Let me know in the comments.
