15 Movies like Superbad

Lee Kirwin

Lee

Lee is an avid 80's action fan classing Predator and Terminator among his favourites, outside of those he loves Brokeback Mountain. When he's not binging movies he can be found keeping fit, attending Comic Con and wearing Star Wars socks of all things.

In 2007 the epic coming-of-age comedy movie Superbad hit cinema screens and took the world by storm. It was the breakout movie for many comedic stars such as Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone, and many others.

If you loved Superbad, you’re probably wondering what you can watch that’s similar.

In this article, you’ll discover 15 movies like Superbad that you can watch and laugh at until your sides split.

Read through and choose one to start on. I highly recommend the last one, it’s one of my favourites and is as funny as they come.

Bad Neighbours

Imagine moving into a lovely new house with your partner, only to discover that your new neighbours are a bunch of fraternity “bros” who love nothing more than a party… yep, it would suck.

That’s what happens to Mac and Kelly, who are after a nice peaceful suburban existence; unfortunately, it doesn’t work out that way, leaving them at war with the frat house next door.

This movie is hilarious; it’s like Superbad, as it has a group of late teens getting up to no good. Plus, it stars Seth Rogen.

Alongside Seth Rogen is Zac Efron, who’s best known for High School Musical, Baywatch, 17 Again, The Greatest Showman, and Hairspray.

The pair are joined by Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Lisa Kudrow.

The Hangover

The Hangover is arguably one of the finest comedy movies ever made. It follows soon-to-be-married Doug and his three best men as they travel to Las Vegas for his bachelor party.

However, when the best men wake up in the morning after a heavy night on the Vegas strip, they discover that Doug is missing, and they have no recollection of the night.

With the wedding growing closer by the hour, the three friends run around Las Vegas trying to piece together what happened and hopefully find their friend Doug before he misses his own wedding.

Peter Brashaw of The Guardian News called the movie “as crass, offensive, and incorrect as you’d expect, but it’s also -gulp! – really very funny”.

The movie stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Todd Phillips, Justin Bartha, and Ken Jeong.

Adventureland

During the summer of 1987, a young college graduate takes a job at a local amusement park in order to pay for a course he wants to take. However, while he’s there, he meets Emily.

Emily is the girl of his dreams, and he inevitably falls in love with her. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances and a couple of misunderstandings, their relationship faces issues from the beginning.

Will it work out for the young couple? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out. If you enjoyed Superbad, this movie will keep you entertained.

Starring in this movie is Jesse Eisenberg; he’s best known for his roles in Zombieland, Now You See Me, The Social Network, and Vivarium. He’s joined by Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, and Kristen Wiig.

Good Boys

12-year-old max and his friends are invited to a party. He plans on kissing his crush but has no idea how to kiss a girl.

Max and his two 6th-grade school friends ditch school to undergo an epic adventure to learn how to kiss girls.

However, things take a wild turn when one of the boys accidentally steals a bag full of drugs leaving the boys being hunted by a group of teenage girls.

This movie is exactly like Superbad, but the characters are at an earlier stage of their lives. It’s the perfect movie to watch once you’ve laughed your way through Superbad.

It stars Jacob Tremblay, Keith L Williams, Brady Noon, Millie Davis and several other rising stars.

21 Jump Street

You know how in Superbad, teenage McLovin becomes friends with the cops? Well, what would happen if the cops went back to high school? It would be pretty hilarious, right?

In 21 Jump Street, you get to see two police officers going back to school to uncover a drug ring pushing a newly developed synthetic drug throughout US high schools.

The movie is a remake of the 1980s original but is well worth a watch. It’s pretty funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The film stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Dave Franco, and Brie Larson.

Project X

Project X is loosely based on a true story, which is pretty wild when you see what happens throughout the film.

Three high school students decide to throw a party while their parents are on vacation. They hope the party will increase their social standing and get them all the girls they want.

However, things quickly spiral out of control when the invite to the party goes further than they intended, with hundreds turning up at their house.

If this wasn’t bad enough, they’ve got a crazy drug dealer trying to hunt them down.

What could possibly go wrong, huh?

The movie stars Miles Teller, best known for Top Gun: Maverick, Whiplash, War Dogs, Footloose, Fantastic Four, and Only The Brave.

Blockers

Lisa, Mitchell, and Hunter are close friends whose teenage children are in the same friendship group. However, when they discover their children are planning to lose their virginity, they hatch a plan to prevent it from happening.

It’s a role reversal of Superbad, where the kids are trying to lose their virginity, and we’re all rooting for them. This movie is shown from the parent’s point of view; it’s a fun movie to watch.

Starring in the film is ex-wrestler John Cena; he’s starred in The Marine, Vacation Friends, Fast X, F9, Peacemaker, and Playing With Fire.

Dazed And Confused

This movie could well have been the inspiration for Superbad; you’ll see why when you watch it. The storyline pretty much mirrors that of Superbad but is set during the mid-1970s rather than modern day.

A group of teenagers in Texas are planning to celebrate the end of school by chasing freshmen, taking drugs, partying, and drinking kegs and kegs of booze. Sounds like Superbad, doesn’t it?

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Jason London, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck, Rory Cochrane, Joey Lauren Adams, and Adam Goldberg.

This Is The End

While enjoying a party, celebrity James Franco and his friends find themselves stuck inside Franco’s house as a series of apocalyptic events wipe out most of humanity.

In order to survive, James Franco and his celebrity friends must make tough decisions at every corner.

This movie doesn’t take itself seriously, and you’ll be shocked by some of the famous people who star in it. I won’t name them all, as some of the cameo appearances are hilarious.

The main stars (starring as themselves) are James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Jay Baruchel, and Danny McBride.

Movie reviewer Roger Ebert stated, “This is the End finds a balanced tone most horror comedies fail to deliver.”

Pineapple Express

Dale Denton is just your average pot smoker who regularly buys his drugs from dealer Saul Silver.

However, when Dale drops his stash when they witness a dirty cop and a drug lord kill someone, it leaves them on the run from both sides of the law.

Can Dale and Saul manage to save themselves, or will they both end up dead?

The movie might seem serious, but the storyline has a comedy running through its veins, and there are plenty of hilarious moments.

Sausage Party

Do you love the rude humour in Superbad? Or does Seth Rogen’s laugh make you chuckle to yourself? If so, you’ll love Sausage Party.

Now, before you get me confused… it’s not some kind of dirty movie; if that’s what you’re looking for, then you need to visit another website, my friend.

Sausage Party is an R-rated animated movie (definitely not for kids) which follows naive food items in a local supermarket that believe humans are divine beings.

However, they’re devastated when they find the truth about what happens to them when they arrive at the human’s house.

The food items go in search of the true meaning of their lives.

This movie stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Conrad Vernon, Kristen Wiig, and Michael Cera.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

You remember your first time, don’t you? It’s often something you’ll never forget… unless you’re blind drunk.

Unfortunately for Andy, he’s never found that special someone to lose his virginity to; oh, and he’s 40 years old… talk about a late bloomer.

When Andy’s co-workers discover his secret celibacy, they take it upon themselves to help him lose his virginity and teach him how to act around women.

This movie is similar to Superbad as it revolves around getting women, except in this movie, the characters are fully grown men. It’s an excellent movie and shot Steve Carell into stardom.

The movie stars Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Catherine Keener, Romany Malco, and Leslie Mann.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

After breaking up with the love of his life, Sarah, Peter Bretter decides to fly to Hawaii to escape everything that reminds him of his ex-partner and to clear his mind of all things, Sarah Marshall.

However, when he arrives at his hotel, he discovers Sarah is there with her new lover, and their rooms are pretty close together.

We’ve all been through a rough breakup, but you’ve got to admit it couldn’t get any worse for Peter, right?

This movie is like Superbad as it makes light of the character’s misfortune, and the film has several cast members from Superbad.

The movie stars Jason Segel, best known for How I Met Your Mother, I Love You Man, Sex Tape, This Is 40, Knocked Up, and The Five Year Engagement.

The Night Before

Isaac, Ethan, and Chris are three lifelong friends who’ve celebrated their Christmas Eve together every year since they can remember. Each year they search for the best party in New York City.

However, this year Isaac and Chris decide to end their tradition, leaving Ethan facing Christmas alone.

But things take a turn when Ethan steals tickets to the legendary Nutcracker Ball, a secret party that takes place each year that’s eluded the guys all these years.

Can Ethan persuade his friends to join him for one last party of a lifetime?

The movie stars Seth Rogen, Joseph Gorden-Levitt, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, James Franco, and Nathan Fielder.

Zack And Miri Make A Porno

Zack and Miri have been friends since high school, but neither of them has gone very far with their lives, leaving them in financial trouble.

To fix their money problems, they decide to venture into the porn industry… yeah pretty bold move, especially for two amateurs.

They assemble a rag-tag film crew and “stars” and begin to film their first-ever porno. However, things don’t go to plan, and they need to improvise.

This movie has similar humour to Superbad, and it stars some similar cast members, such as Seth Rogen.

Alongside Rogen are Elizabeth Banks (Walk of Shame), Jason Mewes (Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back), Craig Robinson (The Office US), Justin Long (Accepted), and Katie Morgan (various porn movies).
