Enola Holmes and its 2022 sequel have taken Netflix by storm. Both movies have proved to be extremely popular with audiences for many reasons. Whether it’s the humour, period setting, mystery, or gripping plot, there’s something for everyone.
Add in a handful of stellar cast members such as Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Millie Bobby Brown and it’s no wonder Netflix has a hit on their hands.
However, once you’ve finished watching the movies, you might be sitting there wondering what other thrilling mystery movies are available.
In this article, you’ll discover 15 films you can watch to fill your need for mystery. The last one might shock you, but you’ll have to trust me on that one.
Nancy Drew
Teenage Nancy isn’t your average teen; she is, in fact, a young detective who is in many ways similar to Enola Holmes.
When Nancy accompanies her father on a business trip to Los Angeles, she stumbles upon the murder of a movie star. She takes it upon herself to uncover what’s happened and tries to stay out of the way of the people responsible.
This movie stars Emma Roberts, Mark Thieroit, Josh Flitter, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Tat Donovan.
A Simple Favor
Single mother Stephanie develops an unlikely friendship with Emily, a wealthy businesswoman whose life seems perfect.
Stephanie tries to be more like Emily but to no avail. But, when Emily mysteriously disappears, she teams up with Emily’s husband, Sean, to try and track her down.
However, things become complicated when Stephanie and Sean develop a romantic relationship.
This movie is full of twists and turns and will leave you scratching your head as you try to figure out what’s going on. If you enjoyed the mystery part of Enola Holmes, you’ll like this film.
Starring in the movie is Anna Kendrick; she’s best known for Pitch Perfect, Trolls, The Accountant, Up In The Air, and Twilight. Joining her are Blake Lively and Henry Golding.
National Treasure
National Treasure is one of the best mystery adventure movies I’ve ever watched and is perfect for you if you enjoyed Enola Holmes.
Historian Benjamin Gates and his friend Riley Poole team up with Abigail to track down lost Freemason treasure that’s said to be the largest collection the world has ever seen.
However, there are many puzzles to solve as they try to track it down, including how they’re going to access the map… which is located on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
Nicolas Cage heads the movie; he’s known for Con Air, Face Off, Lord Of War, Ghost Rider, The Rock, and Gone In 60 Seconds. He’s joined by Dian Kruger, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, and Jon Voight.
Little Women
Based on the Louisa May Alcott novel of the same name, this coming-of-age period drama follows the March sisters as they cross the threshold of womanhood.
As with all things in life, they experience many ups and downs as they attempt to make life-changing decisions.
Like Enola Holmes, the women in the story try to overcome the stereotypical expectations for women throughout society.
Starring in this movie is Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park), and Saoirse Ronan (Hanna).
Game Night
Several couples meet at each other’s houses every week for “game night”; it’s light-hearted, wholesome fun between friends. However, things take a turn for the worst when one of the friend’s shady brothers joins in.
One of the friends is kidnapped by dangerous gangsters, leaving the others trying to figure out what’s going on so they can rescue their friend.
There’s a lot more comedy in this movie than in Enola Holmes, but it’ll have you thinking equally as hard as you try to solve the mystery.
The Guardian News called the movie “a witty comedy” and gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
Jason Bateman stars in the film; he’s known for Ozark, Thunder Force, The Gift, Central Intelligence, and Arrested Development. Joining him are Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, and Sharon Horgan.
Scooby Doo (2002 Movie)
Scooby and the gang’s first live-action outing was a huge success in 2002 and even led to an equally brilliant sequel being released.
In the movie, the gang have a huge argument and split up, agreeing to go their separate ways.
Two years later, Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne, Velma, and Fred reunite to investigate mysterious occurrences on a creepy island resort.
The movie stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr, and Linda Cardellini.
Sherlock Holmes (2009)
I couldn’t write an article named “movies like Enola Holmes” without including the legendary Sherlock Holmes.
2009’s live-action movie is one of the best mystery movies of the decade. Its intelligent storyline and mysteries draw you into the film, much like Enola Holmes does.
Detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson send the murderous serial killer Blackwood to the gallows. However, they’re shocked when they discover he’s back from the dead and seek to hunt him down again.
The movie stars Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, and Kelly Reilly.
The Nice Guys
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, two unlikely private eyes team up to investigate a missing girl and the death of a porn star.
Even though the movie’s content is more mature than Enola Holmes, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. March and Healy’s partnership shares similarities to Enola and Sherlock, which is massively entertaining.
Starring in The Nice Guys is Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, and Angourie Rice.
Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars is your average “popular” high school student until her best friend is murdered.
She dedicates her life to solving one of the most challenging mysteries her hometown has ever faced. Will she find out who’s responsible? You’ll have to watch the film to find out.
The mystery element of this movie is similar to Enola Holmes, so I think you’ll enjoy this one.
The movie stars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Teddy Dunn, Percy Daggs III, and Ryan Hansen.
Clue
Based on the board game, “Cluedo”… yeah, a movie based on a board game; there aren’t many of those around.
In the movie, six blackmail victims are invited to a mansion by a mysterious man who knows dark secrets about each victim.
Once all the “guests” have arrived, they’re all given a weapon and shown who the blackmailer is. However, all the lights go out, and when they come back on, the blackmailer is dead.
Who murdered them? It’s anyone’s guess…
Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan, Chistopher Lloyd, Lesleu Ann Warren, and Madaline Kahn are starring in this black comedy mystery.

Directed by the legendary Tim Burton, this movie is based on a book of the same name.

This film stars Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, Judi Dench, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, and Chris O’Dowd.
Murder On The Orient Express
Based on the 1934 Agatha Christie novel of the same name, Murder On The Orient Express Is a brilliant mystery film to watch if you want to get your brain working overtime.
When a murder occurs on a train, Hercule Poirot is hired to solve the case before the train stops and the murderer escapes.
The film has an all-star cast, including Johnny Depp, Gal Gadot, Kenneth Branagh, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
The Mask Of Zorro
I remember going to the cinema to see this movie as a child, and it was brilliant. I still get the same feeling of adventure watching it today.
Don De La Vega sets out to avenge the murder of his wife and find his daughter. To do so, he must train a young man named Alejandro to take up the mantle of Zorro.
The movie is funny, light-hearted, and has some brilliant fight scenes… especially the sword fight with Elena Montero (if you know, you know).
This movie stars Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stuart Wilson, Matt Letscher, and Tony Amendola.
Empire Online said, “The Mask Of Zorro is attempting nothing greater than the purest escapism that will play right across the board, tongue tickling lightly in its cheek, eyes glinting with a jovial sparkle. Its sheer good nature is infectious.”
Pan
This film tells the alternative story of Peter Pan’s origin and how he ended up in Neverland.
12-year-old orphan Peter finds himself captured by pirates and taken to the magical Neverland, where he’s to be enslaved. However, while he’s there, he develops new friendships and stumbles upon his destiny.
The movie is quirky, fun, and adventurous, exactly how Enola Holmes is.
This movie stars Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, Levi Miller, Amanda Seyfried, Cara Delevingne, Garrett Hedlund, and Lewis MacDougall.
Detective Pikachu
When Tim’s father is killed in a mysterious accident, he travels to Ryme city, where he finds a highly intelligent talking Pikachu.
The pair decide to team up to figure out what really happened to Tim’s father, and they uncover a much deeper conspiracy.
This movie is excellent, it manages to make the 90s anime cartoon Pokemon into live-action, and it works incredibly well. It mixes comedy, mystery, and action perfectly. If you enjoyed Enola Holmes, you’ll get a kick from this.
Ryan Reynolds is fantastic in the movie and is joined by Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Rita Ora, and Suki Waterhouse.
