Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

If you’re a Formula 1 fan, then you’ll be looking for the best way to live stream all the racing action wherever you are in the world. In this guide I’m going to show you the best and most reliable way to watch all the races.

In some countries, Formula 1 was previously shown on free-to-air TV or at least 50% of the races were. However, due to the continued popularity of the sport, it’s now mostly found on subscription only and cable services.

If you don’t have access to one of those subscriptions, then you’re extremely limited to where you can stream Formula 1. Apart from resorting to sketchy illegal streams then there are few other places to watch the races live.

The great news is, there’s a neat little trick that will allow you to watch official overseas streams of the Formula 1 2019 season and below I’ll be showing you how easy it is.

Step 1: Get yourself a VPN service

The entire Formula 1 season is shown for free in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It’s shown on the RTL, SRF and ORF networks in those countries.

All three networks have online websites and apps where you can watch Formula 1. They are however geo-restricted to those countries so you’ll need a VPN app to unblock them

A VPN is an entirely legal privacy app that allows you to disguise your location.

My recommended VPN is ExpressVPN but there are plenty of other VPN companies out there such as IPVanish, NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN which will also be suitable for the job.

ExpressVPN is about the best and they’ve got a 49% discount promotion right now allowing you to watch the entire season cheaply, but any will do.

Step 2: Sign up and download the VPN

Now you know you’ll need a VPN to watch Formula 1 for free on an official overseas stream it’s time to sign up and download their app.

I’ve put together a quick step-by-step guide below showing you how you can do that using ExpressVPN, but you can easily use these instructions with one of the other services listed above.

How to live stream Formula 1 2019 online free:

  • Step 1: Sign up to ExpressVPN by visiting their website. Remember their 12-month package is 49% cheaper using this offer.
  • Step 2: From the ‘Products’ area of their website download the app for your type of device.
  • Step 3: Open the app and use the account details you created at sign-up to login.
  • Step 4: Press the ‘Choose Location‘ button.
  • Step 5: You’ll now need to select ‘Germany‘, ‘Switzerland‘ or ‘Austria‘ depending on what website/app you want to watch on.
  • Step 6: Press ‘Connect‘ if needed.
  • Step 7: If you connected to Germany visit the RTL website, if you selected Switzerland visit the SRF website and if you selected Austria visit the ORF website. You can also use their apps.
  • Step 8: Enjoy watching live streams of every Formula 1 race this season.
ExpressVPN connecting to Germany

Choose Germany, Switzerland or Austria to watch the F1.

Step 3: Enjoy the Formula 1 live

Once you’re connected to the VPN from ExpressVPN or one of the other services you’ll be able to watch live streams on any of the recommended websites.

Don’t forget, if you connect to Germany you can watch on RTL, if you connect to Switzerland then watch on SRF and if you connect to Austria watch on ORF.

You’re not limited to watching on just one site and can disconnect and reconnect to another country to swap services as much as you want.

If you can’t find a stream of the race you want to watch then hop country and try one of the other networks.

Who to watch in this years Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton has undoubtedly been the one to watch in recent years but for 2019 the pundits don’t fancy his chances of taking the title.

While he’s likely to win races the feeling is he won’t be crowned victor, and why? Well, Sebastian Vettel is predicted to take his fifth world title.

Changes at Ferrari and pre-season testing have been attributed to this expectation which many claim will be too much for Hamilton.

If you’re feeling like taking a risk, then Charles Leclerc is a name that has been pushing through the forefront of the pack with predictions he may take the title. Although his career has been short, it’s been noted that he doesn’t seem overly pressured by the huge leap to Ferrari.

Could we see Leclerc do what Daniel Ricciardo did at Red Bull in his first season? Who knows, but it adds an exciting dimension to the mix.

Expectations for the year are that mid-table teams will take more wins this year and while it’s still expected to be dominated by the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, there may be one or two upsets along the way.

What’re your predictions for this year? I would love to know so drop a comment in the comments section below.

Can’t I just live stream on illegal websites?

Sure, the popularity of services like Kodi, Mobdro and other sketchy sports websites like Ronaldo7 have boomed in recent years and with a load of free sports to stream including the Formula 1 it’s not difficult to see why.

However, and this is a big one, those services are illegal. Not only are the people running them breaking the law, but by watching you’re probably breaking it too.

Aside from the legality of those services you also put your device at tremendous risk. Those running such services don’t do so from the goodness of their heart, they want to make money.

They usually do this by showing sketchy adverts, forcing dodgy downloads on you which put your privacy at risk and many other underhand techniques. It’s why you often get embarrassing porn pop-ups when you click the innocent looking “Watch Here” link.

If you ask us, it’s just not worth the risk.

In Summary: Watch Formula 1 2019

If you don’t have an expensive cable subscription, then the best way to watch Formula 1 is to do so on an official overseas service.

Many countries show the F1 free including in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

By using a VPN app from ExpressVPN you can change your location to one of those countries which will allow you to live stream the entire Formula 1 season wherever you are in the world.

So you can watch in America, Canada, the UK, Australia, France, Japan, Thailand or anywhere else in the world.

      Hi David,

We don’t actually show anything. However, if you have a cable subscription or an NRL TV subscription we can assist in helping you watching that in Thailand.
