Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

The 2015 Rugby World Cup kicks off on September 18th, 2015 and promises to be an action-packed event taking place until 31st October when the final will be battled out at Twickenham.

The tournament will take place in England over thirteen different venues up and down the length of the country with no less than 20 teams from around the world taking part.

If you’re a rugby fan then you know how popular the sport is but to those none fans they may just be surprised how big an event this will actually be.

If you want to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup online then the best place is on the UK’s ITV channel. They are showing full coverage of the matches plus extended highlights and more. You might be able to pick up a handful of games on TV in your own country but ITV is one of the only showing all 48 games live including every nation taking part.

ITV is only directly accessible in the UK so if you’re from the UK simply head over there, but there is also an easy way to watch if you’re not in the UK.

So if you’re from another country or you’re even from the UK but travelling abroad then read on as I’m going to show you a quick and easy way on how to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup online on ITV no matter where you are in the world.

How to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup online

As explained all matches will be shown live on the UK TV channel ITV. They have an online streaming service called ITV Player. Every game will be shown on either ITV or ITV 4 which are both available on ITV Player.

If you try to access ITV Player outside the UK you’ll be stopped and hit with a block message telling you it isn’t possible to access, a bit like the one below.

Blocked ITV Player

But don’t worry. There is an super simple tool that will allow you to bypass this block message and watch all 48 games of the 2015 Rugby World Cup on ITV Player anywhere and it’s called a VPN or Virtual Private Network to give it its full name.

A VPN is a service offered by tons of different companies known as VPN providers and they work by supplying you a small piece of software for your computer or an app for your tablet or phone that allows you to appear as if you’re in a different country.

Where can I get a VPN to watch the Rugby World Cup

So the first port of call is to sign up for a VPN service, these cost about US$5-10 per month and if you decide to sign up for a longer period of time they can be even cheaper on a per month basis. As the 2015 Rugby World Cup will be running for around 6 weeks you’re going to need more than a months service but you can pay monthly so there is no need to sign up for a longer package if you don’t want to.

Streaming video such as Rugby live takes a lot of power and some VPN provider just aren’t up to the job. If you signed up to one of them you’d get laggy and buffering playback and if it stopped just as your team was about to score a try you’d be pretty disappointed. So I’ve put together a list of three quality VPN providers below that will allow you to watch in all its glory without buffering, stuttering and stops.

My first choice VPN provider to watch the Rugby is IPVanish as their price is fair, their service good and the speeds for video fast, but feel free to sign up to any of the three below as they all offer an excellent service.

  1. IPVanish
  2. ExpressVPN
  3. VyprVPN

What to do next

Now you’ve signed up to IPVanish or one of the other providers it’s simply a case of downloading their software or app.

Once you’ve decided if you’re going to watch on a computer, tablet or phone then download the software or app for your device. They’re available on the website of the VPN provider you sign up to.

If you don’t have the ITV Player app installed on your tablet or phone then it may be better to watch on a computer as you may not be able to download the ITV Player app outside the UK.

If you’re using a phone or tablet just launch the VPN app, connect to a UK location and then load the ITV Player app, you’ll be able to watch no problem.

If you’re using a computer then launch the VPN provider software, connect to the UK and then visit the ITV Player website.

As you can see in the example below with IPVanish you simply click Server Selection and then UK Media or Gaming. Once it has connected then visit the ITV Player website.

Once you’ve finished watching just press Disconnect. You can reconnect whenever you wish.

Don’t forget some matches will be shown on ITV and some on ITV 4 which are both accessible through ITV Player by hovering above Watch Live and selecting the relevant channel.

Enjoy watching the 2015 Rugby World Cup no matter where you are in the world and I wish your nation the best of luck!
