Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

After speaking to a few friends overseas, it occurred to me that plenty of people are wondering how to watch ITV Hub overseas. It’s not just British expats either but also viewers from around the world who want to access content on ITV.

ITV Hub has a great selection of shows that can be watched live or on catch-up and with classics like Downton Abbey and Coronation Street. Plus big sporting events like the recent Rugby World Cup being shown there is every reason to watch ITV Hub abroad.

ITV Hub is restricted to viewers in the United Kingdom and if you’ve ever visited the website from outside then you’ll know what it’s like to hit the block message which looks similar to the one below.

Blocked ITV Hub

So if you’ve been hit with “ITV Hub is only available to viewers in the UK” then you’ll be interested to know there is a way around this and it’s really simple to achieve. So regardless of your age, gender or computer ability keep reading because this solution will be suitable for all.

How to watch ITV Hub overseas

When you visit the ITV Hub website and you’re outside the United Kingdom the first thing the website does is check your internet connection. From this it can determine your location and when it sees you’re outside the UK it throws up the block message we saw above.

The reason for this is something called your IP Address. Now it’s entirely possible to change your IP Address and route your internet connection via another country. To do this you need a VPN.

A VPN is s small piece of software you download and install on your computer or it also comes in app form for Android or iOS tablets or phones.

So where can I get a VPN?

VPN services are offered by thousands of different companies these days and the market has exploded. A good VPN service will set you back in the region of US$5 to $10 per month which is roughly £3 – £6.

Due to the massive choice most people don’t have time to be looking through them all, I know I certainly don’t.

Finding a VPN provider that is fast and reliable which is a requirement for streaming video can be a time consuming task so I’ve put together a list of three of my favourite VPN providers who offer a good and robust service and will be ideal for ITV Hub.

I personally use ExpressVPN because they’re incredibly easy to use and they offer some of the fastest speeds I’ve seen which means you avoid buffering, but the other two providers are just as good so feel free to consider all three services before making a choice.

How do I even use a VPN for ITV Hub?

Ok, Now you’ve signed up you probably want to know how to use it.

You can use the service on all your devices from your PC or Mac right through to your phone, tablet or Amazon Fire TV Stick. Decide which device you want to watch on first and download the software or app for that device.

Most providers give links in their welcome email but if not you’ll find them on their website.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed it then you need to connect to a United Kingdom server. You’ll find this by pressing Selected Location and then selecting it from the list.

ExpressVPN app connecting to the UK.

Unblock ITVHub.

The apps for phones and tablets are even more self-explanatory but if in the extremely unlikely event you get stuck you can always either contact the VPN provider for help or post in the comments section as I would be happy to help!

Once connected just visit the ITV Hub website. You may need to enter a UK post code, this can be any at all and you can find one by searching Google if you need.

I told you it was simple. That is all there is to it. For however long you signed up for you can connect and disconnect at will and watch ITV Hub whenever you want.

Can I do anything else with the VPN service?

VPN services are originally intended to protect your privacy so when connected everything you do is encrypted and secure meaning no hackers or government can snoop on what you’re doing.

You can also use the same service to access all the other UK streaming services such as BBC iPlayer, All 4, Demand 5 and Sky Go. So for the one fee you have access to a whole range of entertainment from the United Kingdom.

It would be great to hear what you’re using a VPN to watch on ITV Hub so why not let us know in the comments?

OK, very nice description of the VPN. One question though, in the past when using a VPN to long onto BBC to see current shows, they ask for a Post Code. Now, just how do you suggest I get around that?
