If you’re Australian and you’re in Thailand for any period of time then you’ll probably want to watch Australian TV.
In this guide we’re going to show you the easiest and most cost effective way you can watch all your favourite Aussie shows and TV networks while in Thailand.
There were over 20,000 Aussies living in Thailand 10 years ago, a number which has surely increased and with the more than 650,000 tourist visits each year from Australians alone, this makes for a lot of you who want to watch Aussie TV.
The easiest and quickest way to watch Australian TV in Thailand is to get yourself an app called a VPN. A VPN allows you to legally disguise your online location so you can access online TV services from Oz.
Below we’ll show you the easy way to get one and how to use it.
How to watch Australian TV in Thailand
The easiest way to watch Australian TV in Thailand is to use the online streaming services such as SBS and ABC or if you have a subscription then the Foxtel Go site or app.
However, if you’re in Thailand and you try to visit any of these websites directly you’ll be blocked with a message that looks a little bit like this.
An example of a block message you may see.
The reason you’re blocked from watching is clear, you’re in Thailand and not Australia. The TV service is only intended for use in Australia.
The good news is all you’re going to need is an app called a VPN or Virtual Private Network that will allow you to pretend you’re in Australia so instead of seeing a block message like above you’ll be able to watch any of your favourite Australian TV.
Just follow the instructions below to watch Australian TV in Thailand
How to watch Australian TV in Thailand:
- Visit the VPN provider IPVanish and sign up.
- Download the correct app for your device and install it.
- Select Australia.
- Press Connect.
It will take around 15 seconds for the app to get connected.
After it’s connected all you need to do is visit your favourite TV streaming service, or launch their app. You can watch both live and catch-up TV.
We’ve rounded up a few of the most well known ones at the bottom of this article but basically most Australian TV services that offer online streaming will now work for you in Thailand.
If you’re finding it difficult to locate the correct options to connect on the app just take a look at the examples below:
Android / iOS:
Windows/Mac:
Once you’ve finished watching your favourite Australian TV shows or networks all you need to do is press Disconnect.
As long as you have an active subscription to IPVanish you can reconnect at any time in the future and watch more shows.
There are also other VPN providers available, check below for details.
Other VPN providers
We recommend IPVanish because we found them the best for accessing Australian TV in Thailand but if you’ve got time to shop around then there are other options available.
You firstly need to find a VPN provider that offers an Australian “VPN Server”. Not all do and it’s critical that the provider you sign up to has one otherwise you won’t be able to access Australian TV.
The next requirement is that the service is fast enough to stream video. Especially if you live in a rural area of Thailand or have a poor internet connection. The distance between Australia and Thailand is already great so speed is essential.
If you want to take a look at the other available options then three more providers we recommend are:
The process is exactly the same as with IPVanish.
All you need to do is click on one of the names above, sign-up and then download their app.
Once downloaded and installed select Australia and press Connect.
That’s all there is to it, just get yourself a VPN using the button below and sign-up. Then follow the instructions earlier in this guide and you’ll be able to watch Australian TV in Thailand in no time.
Australian TV Services
You can basically watch any online TV service as if you were at home in Australia but a few you might want to try are:
- SBS
- ABC
- Foxtel Go
- Stan
and a whole host more!
we have vpn but can only view ABC the others 7, 9 & SBS come up with message that you are in another country. Any way around this, we have watched every show on ABC .
Hi Val,
Not all VPNs work with all services which is why we recommended our tested select few.
Which VPN app are you using?
Rubbish. Doesn’t work at all. Update your content or remove it
Hi Neil,
We can’t guarantee every service will work but the majority do. What are you trying to access?
Very helpful, thanks
No worries Mick. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
