How to watch 9Now outside Australia

Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

9Now is one of the best online streaming services in Australia and if you want to know how to watch 9now outside Australia then I have a really simple solution.

In this guide I’m going to show you how you can watch 9Now anywhere in the world even though usually it isn’t technically possible.

If you haven’t previously used 9Now then it allows you to live stream Channel 9, GEM, 9Go! and 9Life and also watch some of your favourite TV shows on catch-up including AFL Footy Show, Ellen, Married at First Sight, Outback Wrangler, 9 News and a whole host more.

Read below to find out how easy it is to watch 9Now outside Australia.

How to watch 9Now outside Australia

If you’re travelling or living outside Australia and you visit the 9Now website then instead of being able to stream live TV or your favourite shows you’ll be blocked with the following message.

9Now Blocked

The 9Now website knows you’re outside Australia because it checks something known as your IP Address.

An IP Address is a unique set of numbers assigned to every internet connection that also gives away your location.

The great news is you can change your IP Address to one from Australia and if you’re outside Australia this will allow you to watch 9Now.

To change your IP Address and watch 9Now you’ll need a service called a VPN.

Where to get a VPN

My top recommended VPN services is ExpressVPN because they’re one of the fastest and also competitive on price.

A VPN service from ExpressVPN will cost you around AU$9 per month if you take an annual package and not much more if you only choose to sign up for 1 month.

Firstly you need to sign up to the ExpressVPN service which you can do by clicking the button below to visit their website.

Once you’ve signed up you should download the software from their website for Windows or Mac. It’s possible to download Android and iOS apps too for use with the 9Now app but you’ll need to have downloaded the 9Now app before you left Australia and I give no guarantee it will work although it should in theory.

Next install and run the software (or app). Once the app is open press Selected Location, then All, then Asia Pacific and then Australia.

ExpressVPN app connecting to Australia

Unblock 9Now anywhere.

Now press Connect.

The ExpressVPN app will take care of all the technical things and make connection for you. Once connected all you need to do is visit the 9Now website.

You can now watch live or catch-up TV from any country in the world outside of Australia.

Occasionally a VPN server may stop working and when you visit 9Now it’ll tell you you’re still outside Australia. All you need to do is select one of the other servers by disconnecting and then clicking the drop down arrow next to Australia to select a different city.

Other VPN Services

There are of course other VPN services and ExpressVPN isn’t the only choice.

If you’re searching Google you should be careful as not all VPN services offer Australian connections, also know as “servers” and more important not all services are fast enough to stream video overseas especially if you are a long distance from Australia such as in the UK.

If you want to shop around or ExpressVPN just doesn’t suit you then three other VPN services I recommend are:

  1. IPVanish
  2. NordVPN
  3. CyberGhost VPN

The process is exactly the same as with ExpressVPN. All you need to do is sign-up, download the software for your required device and then connect to one of their Australia servers.

Access other TV too

More good news is you’re not just limited to watching 9Now, you can access the full range of Australia TV such as SBS, ABC and even subscription services like Foxtel Go, Stan and others if you have an account.

On top of that you can even watch TV from around the world. For example, if you connect to the United Kingdom with ExpressVPN then you can watch services like BBC iPlayer.

Have a browse around our website for more ideas on what to watch and the best news is you can do it all with the one VPN service and it won’t cost you anything extra.
