What is Honey Boy all about?
Honey Boy is based on a script written by Shia LaBoeuf as part of his therapy while he was in rehab. It is based on his real-life childhood experiences with his alcoholic father.
The main character Otis Lort is also in therapy after a drunk-driving incident. He relives his youth with his violent and drunken father, including traumatic incidents such as relaying arguments between his separated parents and dealing with his father being a registered sex offender.
He eventually confronts his father, but his father hits him before there is a reconciliation of sorts and a complicated finale which is not what viewers expect at all.

Honey Boy stars Shia LaBoeuf (Transformers, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) as the father character, James Lort, while the role he wrote about himself, Otis Lort, is played by Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
Noah Jupe (The Night Manager, A Quiet Place) plays young Otis, while there are also prominent roles for FKA Twigs (The Crow, Sad Day), Maika Monroe (Greta, Brothers By Blood), Natasha Lyonne (Blade: Trinity, The United States vs Billie Holliday), and Martin Starr (Spiderman: Homecoming, The Incredible Hulk).
The director Alma Har’el directed in her feature debut. She subsequently directed Shadow Kingdom: The Early Songs of Bob Dylan, a Bob Dylan concert film which was praised for its stunning visuals.
