The Mediterranean island Cyprus, home of fine wines, Halloumi cheese and not forgetting the beautiful landscapes.

It’s no wonder as to why it’s a top holiday destination that sees people flocking there all year round. And is why so many Cypriots never want to leave.

But with all that Cyprus has to offer, if you want to use your Fire TV Stick to catch up with the latest episodes of your favourite drama, then you are in for some disappointment.

As it stands the Fire TV is not officially available in the region and while it will still physically work, many of the apps will be disabled.

This is far from ideal, especially when you want some downtime from the beautiful weather, but more on that later…

Here in this article we will show you how to unlock the Fire TV’s full benefits and have full access to all the good stuff.

Is it possible to use the Fire TV Stick in Cyprus?

To put it simply, yes.

However even though you’ll be able to use the Fire TV Stick physically, there will be several limitations as it hasn’t been officially released in the region as of yet.

This means that a lot of Fire TVs functions will be unavailable to you.

For example, you will not be able to access BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and any other British or other countries apps.

You will also only have access to Cyprus’s Amazon Prime and Netflix, meaning some of your favourite TV shows or movies will not be accessible too.

To solve this problem, you will need a VPN.

Cyprus flags

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is an app developed initially to keep your data and information safe and secure while browsing the internet from any unwanted snooping.

But it also can mask your location, allowing you to “trick” the Fire TV Stick into thinking you are in another region, giving you access to the chosen region’s content.

By using a VPN, you will unlock all of Fire TVs abilities, so you can binge-watch Love Island or whatever floats your boat every night.

Where can I get a Fire TV Stick compatible VPN?

There are so many VPNs out there, some great, some good and some you should outright avoid.

First and foremost, you need to make sure you pick a reputable provider who doesn’t share your data.

When looking for a VPN for your Fire TV Stick, you will also need to make sure that you pick a service that offers a dedicated Amazon Fire TV App.

Some services have this as standard. However, not all of them do. Don’t make the mistake of picking the wrong VPN provider.

Our top choice would be ExpressVPN.

Express VPN boasts one of the fastest speeds around and with over 3000 servers worldwide you will never be left looking for a fast, reliable and secure connection. This is perfect for streaming video content without any setbacks.

ExpressVPN’s dedicated Fire TV Stick App is very user friendly and has a straightforward setup process.

Other suitable services that will work with your Fire TV Stick are CyberGhost VPN and Surfshark VPN, both of which offer exceptional services.

In the next section, I’ll show you exactly what to do.

Where can I use the Fire TV Stick in Cyprus?

So you may be wondering where you can use your Fire TV Stick.

Well for travellers, if you are looking for some downtime after exploring the Troodos Mountains or maybe you have had a tiring day at the famous Aphrodite Water Park, then listen up.

Most of Cyprus’ hotels and guesthouses have modern TVs that will have an HDMI connection that will allow you to insert your Fire TV Stick. If this is the case, then you are good to go.

Or perhaps you are a Cypriot local who enjoys watching some British Opera TV at night after a long day at work.

If this sounds like you, so long as you have a reasonably modern TV that has an HDMI port, you will be able to use the Fire TV Stick plus a VPN with no problem.

In Summary

When you are in Cyprus, your Fire TV Stick will physically work. However, a lot of the functions and apps will be unavailable without the use of a VPN.

Our recommendation is to use ExpressVPN as they have one of the fastest if not THE quickest connection speeds out of all VPNs, which is perfect for streaming video content through your Fire TV device.

Sign up for ExpressVPN then download their app directly onto your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick like you would any other app.

You can now enjoy your device unrestricted wherever you are in Cyprus no matter how long you’re there.

Hi my partner lives in North Cyprus and has a Fire TV stick (2nd gen) I have returned back to uk with it and even though I have all the components o link directly to the wired internet ( same as my 4k stick ) it will only run on wifi…o you know if this is because it was a purchase abroad..I have tried factory reset etc and loaded apps from uk but still will not operate on a wired internet but fine on the wifi

      Hi Graham,

That is an odd one and unfortunately I don’t know the reason why this would be the case. Are you able to test it in another house in the UK (ie; someone else’s wired connection) to see if the issue persists? Was it bought in the UK originally?

If somebody bought me out a fire stick from the UK,would I be able to set up and us it in Cyprus.I already have a VPN

    • Chris says:

      Hi Carol,

Yes, that shouldn’t be a problem. It would be linked to the Amazon account of the buyer however, so you may need to sign into an Amazon account of your own if required.
