The Fire TV and Fire TV Stick devices are only available in a handful of countries, but it is possible to unlock them and use them in Nigeria.

In this guide, I’ll be showing you how.

The Amazon Fire TV and the other Amazon devices are some of the most popular streaming devices for accessing all kinds of content, from apps and games to different TV channels, specific shows, movies, live TV, and more. As such, it is highly sought-after by users around the world.

Unfortunately, it does come with its own set of geo-restrictions, meaning that there are areas where you can not use it properly, and where it cannot unlock all of the content it has to offer.

At least not without some help from additional tools.

Nigeria is one such region. But, if you still wish to use it, there is a way, and I will explain what you must do.

What you will need

To use Amazon Fire TV Stick in Nigeria, you will also have to use a VPN.

VPN: is an online privacy and security app which can make you anonymous and safe while browsing the web.

Another useful feature is its ability to unblock content and apps on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.

Of course, it is also essential to know which one to use, as not all of them work with Amazon Fire TV Stick.

There are a lot of choices, so this is where things can get confusing.

In my tests, I’ve found ExpressVPN to be about the best for use with a Fire TV device in Nigeria.

However, there are a couple of other good options like NordVPN and CyberGhost, so you’re free to choose.

And that is it.

You can now unblock and stream Fire TV Stick’s content as much as you wish in Nigeria and across other African nations.

What can you watch?

One great thing about Fire TV and Fire TV Stick is that it is universally popular, and that means that there are loads of streaming service apps that support it.

When you unblock it with a VPN, you can access all kinds of different services, including the ones from the UK, like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, and others.

You can also use it to unblock Netflix content from any region, including the US, the UK, and more. Not to mention content restricted to the US region, such as HBO, NBC Sports, and more.

Even popular streaming services from Asia, like Indian SonyLiv, are available, alongside many others.

US Prime Video does work in most cases but can be a little hit and miss and if you’re trying to access other regions of Prime you’ll be out of luck.

Using the Fire TV Stick is the best way to reach almost anything, and you can use it to its full potential in Nigeria.

How does a VPN work?

As mentioned, VPNs are online privacy and security tools.

They do several things at once, although it is not too difficult to understand the concept. However, the most important feature is their server network, which allows you to connect to servers in different countries and unblock all the content available in that specific country.

This can be very useful for Nigerian users, as you can appear to be from another region by replacing your IP address through the help of a VPN app.

It is a great way to unblock foreign content such as TV or even reach your own country’s content while travelling.

You can use the same VPN on other streaming devices or your computer, laptop or phone too with just one account.

Is using a VPN with Fire TV Stick legal?

Absolutely, you can use the Fire TV Stick to download a VPN directly from Amazon’s store.

Amazon would not offer it if it didn’t allow using it, so it is perfectly legal. Furthermore, VPNs are permitted in any other situation as well, as they are viewed as privacy tools.

Finally, there are no laws against them in Nigeria so that you can use them, however, and whenever you wish.

Summary

If you live in Nigeria and you wish to use your Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4k or Fire TV Cube and unlock its full potential, you will need a VPN.

With it, you can unlock all kinds of content, including movies, TV shows, music, news, magazines, different apps, and more.

It is one of the best ways of reaching all kinds of different content, and when combined with a VPN — there is pretty much nothing you cannot reach.

ExpressVPN is my favourite for the job, but there are others which you can discover listed earlier in this article.

Once you’ve signed up, download their app directly on your Amazon Fire TV Stick and then enjoy watching your favourite TV in Nigeria on your Fire TV, Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube.

      Hi Ajayi,

That’s surprising. I would have thought YouTube and Netflix should work with the Nigerian Netflix catalogue. Very strange that they don’t but thanks for the report.

Is the VPN free or we have to pay subscription on it too?

    • Chris says:

The VPN costs a few US dollars per month. There are free options but very few work with streaming services and most don’t have an app for the Fire TV.
