7 VPN services for Kodi you really should be using

Chris has a passion for helping you watch your favourite TV abroad. When he isn't helping you he can be found watching football, browsing Netflix or watching a good documentary.

Kodi is an excellent system for streaming but you really shouldn’t be using it without a VPN.

Choosing a VPN service on its own can be difficult but choosing one to use with Kodi is an even harder task because not all services are suitable for Kodi on all devices.

If you’re like me you want minimal fuss and don’t want to be spending hours entering complicated settings. I’ve been taking a look at a whole range of VPN services to find the 7 VPN services for Kodi you really should be using.

A VPN with Kodi will not only protect the privacy of what you watch but it can also let you access a whole lot more content and Kodi addons. If you’re interested to know more about the benefits of using a VPN with Kodi take a look below our recommended providers list below.

Top 7 VPN services for Kodi

Below is a list of 7 of the best VPN services to use with Kodi that offer some of the fastest speeds, are the easiest to set up and also are competitive on price.

1. IPVanish

Without question my favourite VPN for use with Kodi is IPVanish. Their service works with Kodi on almost all devices. They’ve got VPN apps for Android and iOS, Windows and Mac and most importantly the Amazon Fire TV and Firestick.

If you’ve got an Android box, Fire TV or Firestick device with Kodi installed then you’ll be able to install and use IPVanish in just a couple of clicks, no set-up and no-nonsense.

With VPN servers in 60 countries, they’re suitable for use in most countries and will not only protect what you watch but will also let you download and used blocked addons and services.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is another good VPN service for Kodi on multiple devices. Like IPVanish they support Android, iOS, Windows, Mac and have a dedicated app for Amazon devices like the Fire TV and Firestick.

With VPN servers in more than 94 countries, they’ve also got plenty of options for connection. Their monthly package is a little bit expensive but if you stretch to a yearly package then their prices are competitive.

There’s also a huge 30-day money back guarantee so if you can’t get it working or you don’t like the service then simply get your money back.

3. NordVPN

NordVPN is one of my favourite VPN services and they’re also one of the fastest. If you like to stream in high quality then you’ll suffer no buffering and with over 4000 servers there’s plenty of choices for connection.

Sadly NordVPN doesn’t have an Amazon app so if you’ve got an Amazon Fire TV or Firestick it’s best to stick with IPVanish. They do however support Android, iOS, Windows and Mac devices so if you’ve got Kodi on any of those they’ll work without issue.

Again, they have a 30-day money back guarantee and we found their apps to be just that little bit simpler than the rest. Click a country and wait for it to connect, no messing about and definitely beginner-friendly.

4. VPN.ac

VPN.ac is a little-known VPN service from Romania but continues to offer one of the best VPN services for Kodi I’ve seen. Not only do they have some of the fastest speeds reducing your chances of buffering when watching Kodi they also care about your privacy.

They support Android and iOS devices as well as Windows and Mac. There’s also a dedicated app for the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick but unlike IPVanish and ExpressVPN you can’t install it directly from the Amazon store so will need to side load it.

There are fewer countries to connect to on the service so you’ll first need to check if they have your country covered. Most major countries are covered but it’s best to check before you sign up.

5. CyberGhost VPN

If you want a beginner-friendly VPN service for Kodi then CyberGhost VPN is where you should look. They don’t have any Fire TV or Firestick apps but they do support Android, iOS, Windows and Mac.

They’re one of the easiest to use services I tested with helpful apps that get you connected to the correct server. If you don’t really know what you’re doing then options such as ‘protect my privacy’ and ‘unblock tv’ will help you make the correct choice.

The 1-month and 3-month packages are a bit expensive but if you sign up for a year then you’ll unlock one of the best per month prices I’ve seen.

6. StrongVPN

StrongVPN isn’t suitable for everyone because they only have VPN servers in around 20 countries. If you’re in one of those countries though then the VPN service is actually rather good.

Very good apps are available for Android, iOS, Windows and Mac and while there isn’t an app for the Fire TV or Firestick you could set it up manually if you have an above average skill-level.

Speeds are good on the service and I was able to unblock more TV services than most other providers. If unblocking content abroad is important then StrongVPN make a good option.

7. Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access is the best budget option as a VPN service for Kodi. If you don’t want to spend too much then their 2 and 3 year packages at just a couple of dollars per month will be right for you.

There are no Amazon apps for the Fire TV or Firestick but there are apps for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. They offer higher encryption than many other providers so if you’re concerned about your privacy then they make a good choice.

Private Internet Access comes highly recommended across the web and even though they’re budget in price they certainly aren’t budget in service.

Why do you need a VPN for Kodi

There are many reasons to use a VPN with Kodi but two of the most important are Privacy and Accessing blocked content.

Privacy

What you do on the internet can be recorded and monitored. This means what you watch on Kodi can be seen by your internet company which in turn could be seen by others.

No one but you should really know what you’re doing on the internet or watching on Kodi and this is where a VPN helps. A VPN protects your privacy so no one knows what you’re doing or watching.

Even your internet company won’t know what you’re doing which helps your actions remain private.

Accessing blocked content

Some streams, addons and other Kodi services can be blocked in your country for a variety of reasons. A VPN allows you to bypass these blocks and access any addons on streams you want.

If you want to access more content for Kodi without restriction then a VPN is certainly a service you need.
